The Justice Department announced Thursday it has sued the State of Texas over its restrictive voting law that went into effect in September.
The complaint argues SB1 violates Section 208 of the Voting Rights Act "by improperly restricting what assistance in the polling booth voters who have a disability or are unable to read or write can receive."
SB1 affects voters who have a disability by preventing those who assist them from providing help like answering questions on their behalf, confirming voters with visual impairments have properly marked their ballots and responding to any requests they might have about certain ballot translations.
The complaint also accuses the law of violating Section 101 of the Civil Rights Act "by requiring rejection of mail ballots and mail ballot request forms because of certain paperwork errors or omissions that are not material to establishing a voter’s eligibility to cast a ballot."
.....
The DOJ similarly sued Georgia in June, alleging provisions in its new voting law violated Section 2 of the Civil Rights Act.

If they can't read or write, how did they register to vote or get to the polls?
Let’s go Merrick.
Help from a friend. Possibly a very controlling, domineering friend, telling him/her to whom to vote. They allege the law “improperly restricts” such assistance. The intention is probably to bus in an adult home full of seniors, retards, or blind people, and have an “assistant” in the booth making sure they vote the way they want them to.
Garfinkel’s revenge!
You will not stop us from cheating!
When we steal an election, it stays stolen, and we’re gonna do it again!
Let’s see if the courts throw it out because the DOJ has no standing to bring the suit.
HOW can they make an INFORMED OPINION????
Texas ping.
The dems are going crazy, this reeks of desperation.
LOL
If you can’t read or write, you have no business voting.
Naa, they go in person and use absentee and/or mail in ballots for that. They want to be able to bring in homeless people and illegals that they've paid $20-40.00 to. Just think of how many people George Soros could afford at those rates and he's far from the only one. All those "Foundations" like the Ford Foundation can pitch in. I'm sure the on the ground activist knows exactly which polling places will "take care of them".
I wouldn’t go that far; I seem to recall how a few backwater Galilean fishermen who couldn’t do either got accused of “turning the whole world upside down.”
That’s putting in quite a lick for a bunch that needed to hire scribes to do their written work for them.
So, no, it’s not a matter of being able to read or write; it’s a matter of being able to think and speak for one’s own self, and having an honest scribe in attendance.
“it’s a matter of being able to think and speak for one’s own self, and having an honest scribe in attendance.”
Therein lies the rub.
That was then. This is now.
Peter may not have been illiterate. Greek was likely a second language to him, Aramaic was likely his main language. He also had no formal training in Theology, but learned from Jesus what was true. Jewish theologians would consider him unlearned because he had not spent years in Theology school, but learned from Jesus.
Oh, no doubt. But being able to understand and speak languages doesn’t bear on one’s ability to read and write. We can all talk and understand spoken words a fair long while before we take up a pencil for the first time.
No they ARE crazy. This is who they are. Our side wins a couple of elections and happily goes back to BBQing and watching Woke NFL. Whereas the committed leftists drive over the speed bump of bad election results. Eventually our side will realize that it’s going to take much more than a couple of elections to stop the left.
So soon after RATs got wiped out in VA.
