The voters of Maine passed the "right to food" state constitutional amendment on Tuesday, the first amendment of its kind in the U.S.
The Associated Press reported that the amendment to Maine's constitution would “declare that all individuals have a natural, inherent and unalienable right to grow, raise, harvest, produce and consume the food of their own choosing for their own nourishment, sustenance, bodily health, and well-being.”
The vote on the "right to food" amendment was passed with large support in Maine's state legislature, but needed to be placed on the ballot following approval from lawmakers.

NY passed the right to clean water, what is going on?
New York Proposal 2, the Environmental Rights Amendment, was on the ballot in New York as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on November 2, 2021. It was approved.
A “yes” vote supported adding a right to clean water, clean air, and a healthful environment to the New York Constitution’s Bill of Rights.
I’ve got no problem with this a long as that’s as far as it goes.
Sooo....people can plant gardens in those HOA enclaves?
I suspect that feral government regulators won’t like this one bit.
Or respect it.
Go to Burger King !
There may be a few HOAs in Maine, but most of the state never even heard of them...
Is this a PRO 2A/ hunting measure?
How is this any different then the right to farm?
Pretty sure this is covered by, “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”
Is this about force-feeding geese for pate or about growing psilocybin mushrooms?
Sounds to me more like a constitutional amendment to nullify anti-gardening ordnances in suburbs.
This is not the right to be feed by other but the right to grow your own food and raise your own animals.
I have a craving for my grandmothers marijuana pie (old recipe), so under this LAW it would be okay for me to grow and harvest it.
“right to grow, raise, harvest, produce and consume the food of their own choosing”
But But But . . .
Prog Goobermint has used the interstate commerce clause to sledgehammer who, what, when, where and how.
So what wins, overreaching prog Feds or locally determined rules?
You don’t have a right to anything tangible in the US. You only have the right to pursue it with your effort.
Near as I can figure large agricultural business were using their money and power to shut down small farms and individuals growing and selling what they produced.
I am not sure why big business would be concerned about smaller farmers.
Yea me either. However I get a feeling, somehow, someway something will go amiss.
Food has to be available. Looking down the road… that will be an interesting discussion.
Depending on how this is written.. It could be a HUGE win for pro 2A.
If hunting is written into this then, quite possibly the “means” of HARVESTING that food. Could get a whole bunch of exemptions from taxes and be off limits to bans/ licensing.
The farther north you go, the less “Mass-ified” it gets and Me has had a lot of libs running things from the major cities.
