US intelligence agencies say they may never be able to identify the origins of Covid-19, but they have concluded it was not created as a biological weapon.
In an updated assessment of where the virus began, the Office of the US Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) said an animal-to-human transmission and a lab leak were both plausible hypotheses for how it spread.
But there was not enough information to reach a definitive conclusion.
China has criticized the report.
The findings were published in a declassified report which is an update of a 90-day review that President Joe Biden's administration released in August.
It said the intelligence community remains divided on the most likely origin of the virus. Four agencies assessed with "low confidence" it had originated with an infected animal or a related virus.

They know it is a bio-weapon created in a lab. What they didn't know was whether it was accidentally or deliberately released and how virulent and contagious it was which is why there was panic in the beginning. They know it was designed to rapidly mutate which is why they fear variants.
While it hasn't been as bad as they thought they're still not sure how it's going to mutate, as it was designed to do, over time.
And it did mutate; into a political truncheon.

A guy I know is a high-ranking officer in the Air Force. And he told me exactly what you said there. The virus was most definitely a weapon. The only real question is how it got released.
But of course no one can say that out loud, because it might upset the ChComs. And if the ChiComs get upset, they might start charging us more for their cheap plastic goods.

IMO the data collected by technical means that points to an accidental release in Wuhan seems a bit ham-fisted and unlikely to me. ..too stupid to be stupid.
There is a huge difference between an intentional release and an accidental one... accidental release leads to massive international condemnation and the other leads to war.
They might be in on it.

Hey U.S. Intelligence Agencies! Try a lab in Wuhan China, that’s where it came from.
They know, but China’s got ‘em by the short hairs, and they’ll never report the truth. Doesn’t matter, anyone with half a brain knows this was deliberate biological warfare. When the news of the virus first came out, I asked on one thread if this was China’s way of getting out of its trade agreement with Trump, because I believed that they would stoop to any level to do so. After the unrelenting attacks on President Trump, the two impeachments, and what happened with the election, and since that time, I know it was deliberate, not only so China could ignore the trade agreement, but with the specific goal of getting rid of Trump all together. That’s how much they hated him. And the Democrats, and those Republicans who certified Biden and voter fraud on January 6th, were their enablers.
For “intelligence agencies” they sure don’t know much.
They never know the motivation of jihadis, either.
