NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio: ‘Human Reality’ Is Workers Will Get Vaccinated When They Realize They’re Not Getting Paid

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) on Thursday said he is “not having second thoughts” about mandating vaccines for first responders and other city workers ahead of Friday’s 5 p.m. deadline. He predicted many will get vaccinated anyway “once they really realize that they’re not going to get paid.”

When asked about the likelihood of shortages of city workers Monday — from sanitation workers to first responders — the Democrat mayor made it clear he has no regrets.

I hope his "unpaid leave" plan bites him in the ass. You can't legally suspend people, and keep people out of work without pay for any period of time, without charging them with something. They're all Union members. I'm sure the NYPD and other bargaining units have a contractual agreement with the City that anyone who is charged in a disciplinary action, and is suspended, that they will be paid their full salary during that suspension, and whatever arbitration takes place to decide the case. Most Unions have that clause, because you aren't guilty, until you are proven so by a hearing. Suspending you without pay is punishment, when you haven't been found guilty of anything yet.

Everyone of those individuals who refuse to get the vaccine, will have to be charged by the official process in place. They will have to be paid while they are suspended. If de Blasio thinks he can bypass contractual agreements, and do what he wants, I think the New York State Labor Relations Board will have a piece of him.

One of the reasons people are suspended from their jobs is because it's been determined that they are a security risk. Despite that, Unions have contractual agreements that people who are suspended, will receive their full pay, because they haven't been found guilty of anything yet. There needs to be an arbitration hearing to determine that. Since the vaccines have no real efficacy, and you can still get Covid, die from it, and give it to others, why aren't vaccinated people as big a security risk as the unvaccinated? A vaccinated person is as big a threat to health and safety than an unvaccinated person is. Assholes like de Blasio won't admit that though.

I worked in uniform for NY State, so I have to believe that the NYPD has the same contractual agreement in place, and that is, that no Union member will be suspended without pay pending disciplinary action. You're not guilty until proven so, and withholding your salary is considered punishment when you haven't been found guilty of anything yet. If de Blasio does this, he's in violation of every Union contract he has with those Union members.

These people have been working for months without being vaccinated. My guess is half of them have had Covid. These are healthy adults. Occasionally there is a blip here and there and those folks are quarantined first. Few wind up in the hospital.
