Florida cops who publicly insisted they had eyes on Brian Laundrie amid the Gabby Petito investigation have admitted they actually mistook him — for his mother.
“They are built kind of similarly,” North Port Police Department spokesperson Josh Taylor told WINK on Monday regarding the huge blunder in a case that sparked national attention.
Police had set up around-the-clock surveillance last month outside the North Port home where Laundrie lived with his parents after the 23-year-old was named the sole person of interest in his girlfriend’s disappearance.

Mom must be a real looker.
Is Mom shaved bald sporting a Van Dyke beard too?
No wonder she rarely left the house.
It’s not bad enough her son is a dead murderer...
What?
Is she a bearded Lady in a circus?...................
Can anybody write anymore? The article’s headline says that the cops mistook “his mom for him” but then the body of the story says they actually “mistook him - for his mother.” Those are two different things.
Balding bearded mom. Ok.
Most police work is bumbling negligence.
If criminals did not admit 90% of the elements of the crime, they would have a closed case rate in single digits.
Is she bald also?
So Brian had boobs?
“I bet you were something before electricity. Want to earn $14 the hard way?...”
Ok, but it looks like dear old Mom could have been involved in deliberately deceiving the police.
So, Brian leaves in his car. A couple of days later Mom fetches the car from where he left it, drives the car back home, and gets out wearing a baseball cap and goes into the house. I’m going to say it was an attempt to convince the cops that Brian was back home.
She had a hat on and they I’m guessing was in the car but it’s odd that in such an important case they did not look more closely before making that determination. Brian’s mother is heavy, not slim, no beard.
Too much soy and flaxseed...
Tel Mere, Tel Fils
The ultimate Mom insult.

They sure sound like the Keystone Cops, don’t they? They should have taken him in on September 1 when he drove her vehicle hone without her. Leting the parents prevent them from talking to him was a giant mistake. They should have taken him in and answered for it afterward. If his parents were not jerks, he may have been alive today. They knew what he did or they would not have turned their backs on her questioning parents. They are as guilty as sin. They obviously knew where is was and hid it, That is why they were able to lead the FBI to the right location. If they were more mature mentally, he might still be alive today.
