Hertz, the car rental agency, said Monday that it had placed an order for 100,000 Teslas, a sign of growing momentum in the shift to electric vehicles.
By the end of next year, when the Tesla order is completed, electric vehicles will make up more than 20% of Hertz’s global vehicle fleet, the company said.
Hertz said it was teaming with NFL quarterback Tom Brady to promote its EV offerings in a marketing campaign.
“Electric vehicles are now mainstream, and we’ve only just begun to see rising global demand and interest,” Mark Fields, Hertz’s interim chief executive, said in a news release. “The new Hertz is going to lead the way as a mobility company, starting with the largest EV rental fleet in North America and a commitment to grow our EV fleet and provide the best rental and recharging experience for leisure and business customers around the world.”

So many luddites.
Once you have driven an EV you will wonder why you go back to gas.
No more oil changes, belt issues, less moving parts, no mufflers to wear out, batteries are guaranteed 10 years
“What a great subject for a new “ruined vacation” reality series on the Travel Channel-”A Car Ruined My Vacation”-Teslas stalled with occupants getting robbed and assaulted on remote roads and tourist sites, sketchy neighborhoods, etc-sounds like a lot of fun...”
my favorite episodes are when teslas are rented to completely unwitting renters who don’t understand the limited availability of charging stations, and when they get low and pull into a service station, they find out the nearest charging station is too far away ... yucks and belly-laugh hilarity by the service station folks, and tears and hair-rending and husband-wife recriminations from the unwitting vacationers ...
Federal law, batteries are guaranteed for 10 years or manufacturer has to replace for free.
Even more fun than stranded EV’s will be EV’s parked in large airport parking garages’ ready line. Apparently that pesky problem of EV’s spontaneously igniting has been solved.
“Hertz also ordered 20,000 flat bed diesel powered tow trucks.”
surprised they didn’t consider ELECTRIC flat bed tow trucks! :-)
So we’re supposed to “buy” because another celebrity tells us to?
I just have this nightmare of doing the Laughlin, NV trip (which we have done a couple of times and enjoyed).
You fly into Las Vegas, rent an electric car, crank up the A/C and then almost make it to Laughlin before the vehicle stops and the cactus on the side of the road don’t have any charging stations—and it is 120 degrees out there...
Miserable way to die...
—” Where will a parking lot have enough power for 100 480v charging stations???”
The diversity factor coupled with intelligent chargers.
Also limits peak demand so as not to push your billing rate up.
Not all EVs will need a full charge, not all of them will be scheduled for pick up first thing in the morning...
The chargers communicate with a server that schedules charging and minimizes peak demand.
Same set up for UPS, Amazon, Post Office(?)...
On a sci-fi series on Apple+ they are trying to escape the city in their Tesla. It runs out of juice and they have to steal a gas powered car. :)

There hasn’t been a single EV sold in America without a government subsidy. And even Elon Musk says we need to double the capacity of the grid to handle large numbers of EVs.
They’re nice golf carts though.
A regular wall socket can be used but it will take four days to charge your car from empty to full.
Thank you for the accurate information.
Makes a gas line look like a momentary inconvenience...
So,ruin your battery around year 8 or 9?
“They’re nice golf carts though.”
If you ever drive one you will not say that. I drove one this summer. Incredible.
“And even Elon Musk says we need to double the capacity of the grid to handle large numbers of EVs.”
The free market and the aftermarket will devise a way.
There were no gas stations when gas powered cars came out.
Likewise! Bought early, smiling now.
Hilarious-or when the Tesla runs out of power on a road in the middle of the woods, in the mountains on the way to a remote camp ground-as the stranded campers hike off arguing to find help, because there is no cell service, the resident bears smell food, get into the car and trash the entire interior, eating any food they find-comedy gold...
Yet CA keeps shutting people’s lights off
I have owned an EV the past few years. I plug in on a regular socket in my garage, that shares power with other devices (TV, garage opener, etc.). It's my daily driver, although I don't commute, and drive about 15 miles locally. Only need to charge once every couple weeks, overnight in the garage. When I go on 100 mile trips I charge it fully over a couple days (226 mile range). The 110v circuit is perfectly fine, and the trickle charge is better for the life of the battery. Also have a couple ICE cars, but they don't get much use.
He did get away (with it).
