Twitter is publicly sharing research findings today that show that the platform's algorithms amplify tweets from right-wing politicians and content from right-leaning news outlets more than people and content from the political left.
The research did not identify whether or not the algorithms that run Twitter's Home feed are actually biased toward conservative political content, because the conclusions only show bias in amplification, not what caused it. Rumman Chowdhury, the head of Twitter's machine learning, ethics, transparency and accountability team, called it "the what, not the why" in an interview with Protocol.
"We can see that it is happening. We are not entirely sure why it is happening. To be clear, some of it could be user-driven, people's actions on the platform, we are not sure what it is.
It's just important that we share this information," Chowdhury said. The META team plans to conduct what she called a "root-cause analysis" to try to discover the "why," and that analysis will likely include creating testable hypotheses about how people use the platform that could help show whether it's the way users interact with Twitter or the algorithm itself that is causing this uneven amplification.
Twitter didn't define for itself what news outlets and politicians are "right-leaning" or belong to right-wing political parties, instead using definitions from other researchers outside the company.
The study looked at millions of tweets from politicians across seven countries and hundreds of millions of tweets of links from news outlets, not tweets from the outlets themselves.
Chowdhury emphasized that Twitter doesn't already know what causes certain content to be amplified. "When algorithms get put out into the world, what happens when people interact with it, we can't model for that.

To counter this very dangerous trend, Twitter will push harder to the Left and increase the censorship of anyone who is not a communist.
That happened years ago. AI is considered racist as it doesn’t apply feelings and only uses logic.

That’s because they consider 95% of the population “right wing”. Even censoring 9/10 of their posts still doesn’t achieve equity.
Of course there is no such trend. But they search for justification to do more of what they already do.

Well that's the entire problem with the article, isn't it? I mean, if Twitter censors negative statements about or from Biden, that would technically be censorship of a left-leaning politician, although the purpose is actually to protect him.
All this means is that Twitter freely permits leftists to pick and choose from the worst of the statements of anyone identified as a conservative, and tweet freely about that. But if we try to use the words of a leftist politician against them, censored!
What a farce.
This is the same company spent the last month of the 2020 election blacklisting ANYTHING found on Hunter Biden’s laptop. Then they topped it off by banning Donald Trump altogether while he was still President.
Their only regret is that there’s still anyone at all on their platform that doesn’t parrot 100% the party line of the Demrats and the fake news echo chamber.

Could be some truth to it. Every time a conservative speaks the lefties have cows. They are the ones who keep it alive.
Twitter routinely blocks or limits anyone for the slightest reason without notice. It has a myriad of ways to isolate any undesirable from the platform. It uses both human and AI filters.
