Ever since I joined the public conversation as a conservative writer, I’ve been called a fascist and a Nazi by smug, liberal know-nothings, sublimely confident of the truth of their ill-informed prejudices.
So wrote Jonah Goldberg, in response to slander, in his George W. Bush-era Liberal Fascism.
Goldberg has recently engaged in some sublimely-confident slanders of his own, scorning Trump-supporting Republican Party because of “its descent into asininity.” He anticipates Trump’s return as the party’s nominee in 2024, and the only way to head off that nightmare is another Democratic presidency that will protract the catastrophic progressive transformation of the country into a North American Venezuela. In a recent article in The Dispatch, Goldberg recommends punishing Republicans by forming a third party that can “cause the GOP some pain” in “the role of spoiler… garnering enough conservative votes in the general election to throw the election to the Democrat.”
Because Plan A for #NeverTrumpers (a de-Trumpified GOP) has proved unworkable, they focus instead on their Plan B, which corresponds uncannily to the Democrats’ Plan A, i.e. to widen and deepen Democrats’ authoritarian grip on the American people by any means necessary. Bill Kristol, for instance, “in light of the Republican party’s lunatic spiral,” reportedly “is hoping for Biden’s success.” We hope not “success” like the one Biden claimed for his Afghan evacuation. Mona Charen as well, because the “Republican party… has become a conspiracy of liars,” intends to vote for Terry McAuliffe in Virginia’s governor’s race. But if she means to make the point she’s got no use for liars, is voting for a hack rivaled only by Adam Schiff as the greatest producer of BS in American politics the most effective way to say it?

“Liberal Fascism” was a good book. But I always thought it was odd that when Obama came along, Goldberg never came out and said: “See? This what I’m talking about! This is right out of my book!” Instead, Goldberg always seemed a little pleased that we had elected a black progressive to fix our bigoted country. And, of course, Goldberg hated Trump 100%. I say Goldberg is just a poser.
The NeverTrumpers seem to view all Trump supporters as hillbillies and rednecks. Trump says he will do things that the rubes love to hear but then, horror of horrors, he actually proceeds to try and do them! They can never allow this to stand! Remember, it’s not as much about Left vs Right as it is about class.
IMHO people like Goldberg envision themselves as the ‘political intelligentsia’, and anyone or anything that challenges or diminishes that self-perceived stature and/or superiority will not be tolerated by them. It’s a pathetic but common condition among the politically ‘connected’.

Agree.
Who?
This is why Trump won in the first place
The only people who can save the GOP are working class democrats...should have started a new party when the first George Bush was elected and got rid of everything Ronald Reagan did...
The country will not survive four years of Biden...even if Trump wins he cannot dismantle the Kremlin in Washington D.C....with the GOP standing in the way..
Perhaps these NeverTrumpers can name one thing Biden is doing better than Trump.
I used to have respect for Mona Charen. She influenced my thoughts on abortion at an early age. She was excellent at standing up to the abortionists.
Clearly, Mona has sold out and lost her soul. She voted for abortionists Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Now she’s going to vote for abortionist Terry McAuliffe in Virginia’s governor’s race.

Woman must have sold her soul to the RINO Bill Kristol Bulwark clowns.
What is it about Trump that drives these guys crazy?
If they’ve dug in, please seal the hole.
That’s my assessment.
