GESTURES OF LOVE

Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love . . . and weep with them who weep. —Romans 12:10,15

Cards...hundreds and hundreds of cards. Our mail carrier must have thought we were going for a world record. They came by the stack—day after day after day. It was just one of the many ways we knew that people cared for us as our family endured the painful first weeks after our teenage daughter Melissa died in a car accident.

But it wasn't just the cards that provided assurance of loving support...food came in so fast we nearly filled up the freezer. Flowers filled every corner of the house, especially sunflowers...Melissa's favorite.

People sent pictures of her, blankets with verses, memorial gifts to her school, and books...lots of helpful books on trusting God with a broken heart. Then there were the emails, phone calls, and personal words of hope and help...promises of prayer. Offers came to do anything we needed...all from friends following God's prompting.

Our aching hearts were lifted by these deeds too numerous to list, but too beautiful to forget. The love behind these expressions carried us through days heavy with sorrow.

Look for people in need and follow the Lord's leading. Help heal their brokenness with gestures of love. Encourage them for God's glory.

It was only a brief little note, Or a word that was prayerfully spoken,
Yet not in vain, for it soothed the pain Of a heart that was nearly broken. — Anon.

A little kindness can make a big difference.

Insight from the Spirit
Read: John 16:12–15

When he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. John 16:13

As the French soldier dug in the desert sand, reinforcing the defenses of his army’s encampment, he had no idea he would make a momentous discovery. Moving another shovelful of sand, he saw a stone. Not just any stone. It was the Rosetta Stone, containing a listing of the good things King Ptolemy V had done for his priests and the people of Egypt written in three scripts. That stone (now housed in the British Museum) would be one of the most important archaeological finds of the nineteenth century, helping to unlock the mysteries of the ancient Egyptian writing known as hieroglyphics.

For many of us, much of Scripture is also wrapped in deep mystery. Still, the night before the cross, Jesus promised His followers that He would send the Holy Spirit. He told them, “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come” (John 16:13). The Holy Spirit is, in a sense, our divine Rosetta Stone, shedding light on the truth—including truths behind the mysteries of the Bible.

While we’re not promised absolute understanding of everything given to us in the Scriptures, we can have confidence that by the Spirit we can comprehend everything necessary for us to follow Jesus. He will guide us into those vital truths.Bill Crowder

What are some portions of the Bible you have found difficult? List them and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you into better understanding of those Scriptures.

God of all truth, help me to rest in the Spirit of truth that I might better understand the wisdom You’ve provided.

Read A Message for All Time: Understanding and Applying the Bible.

Bible in a year: Isaiah 50–52; 1 Thessalonians 5

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine
feel alone or forgotten.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is loving kindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Psalm 130:7 & 8

How is fall coming along? We had 4” of snow a couple days ago. It clings to the yards, but the streets are pretty dry.

Thanks, Pro, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours..

Did the lawns get mowed? Our streets are pretty much all dry, but it’s just cold enough to keep the snow on the lawns.

Hi Kathy, the lawns haven't been growing due to the colder weather so I had a week off! I'll see if there's any growth next week.

We had a lovely 70 degree day today, I had to put shorts on again!

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.
