As health care workers face increased pandemic burnout, some states — particularly in underserved areas — have had challenges retaining existing staff and recruiting new clinicians.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is now committing $100 million through the American Rescue Plan to help solve the problem.
"Our health care workers have worked tirelessly to save lives throughout this pandemic and now it's our turn to invest in them," Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said in a statement.
"This investment is critical to ensuring state public health officials can continue supporting specific needs across their communities," he said.
The funds, which are now open for applications until April 8, 2022, are eligible "for state-run programs that support, recruit, and retain primary care clinicians who live and work in underserved communities," HHS says. The department hopes that being able to retain health care workers in underserved areas will help improve health equity.

The dimwit New York Governor just shite canned 72,000 nurses for not being vaccinated.
$100,000,000 / 72,000 nurses = $1,389 per lost nurse in just New York.
New York is about 6.1 percent of the US population. If every state is following New York’s lead then:
$1,389 / (100 / 6.1) = $84 per lost nurse nationwide.
Wow…that’s some incentive right there, a whole $84 dollars sign-on bounce…!!! Book a flight Jesse!
Meanwhile around here CDL drivers are getting $8,000 dollar sign-on bounces.
My guess is this will go to some half baked advertising campaign.

Two weeks ago I had to use the local emergency room for an ultrasound. When I told the technician I was an RN (retired), she said if I was interested in returning to work, the hospital would give me $15,000 when hired, plus she (the tech) would receive $5,000 for referring me.
I never asked how many employees they lost, but I did find out that all their employees were required to get the vaccine.

Paying the employees more that you allow to work is not going to make them less short staffed or make them more productive.
