The law of supply and demand. It’s the bedrock of economics, the “invisible hand” that puts prices where they need to be, the glue that holds every capitalist society together. And, over the last few months, it’s been the plight of Canadians.
Rampant demand and short supplies have hiked prices and rates on nearly everything. We’re talking Everest. From cars to bacon to furniture to hotel rooms, everything seems to cost substantially more.
For the past eight months, we’ve seen inflation steadily rising. And through all the price hikes and short supplies, the Bank of Canada’s response has been relatively the same: Don’t worry, it’ll get better.
Well, unfortunately, a lot of Canadians are worried. Many are struggling to pay their bills (according to a recent survey, one in every three Canadians is living paycheque to paycheque). Others are finding it more difficult to set aside money for retirement. Still others are finding it harder to dig themselves out of a hole of consumer debt.
What exactly is causing Canadians to panic?
For many of us in Canada, it’s been rain, rain, rain. Cold rain. And with that rain has come the feeling that summer is over, fall is upon us, and winter is just around the corner.
Many gas distributors have already warned customers about rising natural gas prices. FortisBC, for instance, expects B.C. customers to pay 9% to 12% more per month for heating, while Enbridge expects a price increase of $7 to $44 per year.
In a country that has basically two seasons (a long winter and a very short summer), rising costs in heat is very concerning. Unless we get supply under control (or better yet: renewables), we may very well be in for a long and expensive winter.

Plan accordingly, FRiends!
PING!
How’s that pipeline coming along? lol
They’ve been shooting up Maple syrup again.
Apparently the idiots in Canada have not been paying attentions. Over reliance on renewables is exactly what created this mess in Europe.
“Green” energy can only work with an endless supply of Government subsidy and Government coercion. In a free market it cannot compete with fossil fuels
Canada has Trudeau.
The United States has Biden.
Both countries are heading towards a Venezuela-type society. But here’s some news to make Canadians feel better: the US will cross the finish line before you.
“But here’s some news to make Canadians feel better: the US will cross the finish line before you.”
Yep. Mother Government is definitely on steroids these days!
Renewables? Dream on, Canada. When you most need heat and electricity renewables will most likely be unavailable.
I’ll tell you what else a lot of Canadians (including myself) are VERY worried about right now...
The fact that, in this current red-hot real estate market with no signs of slowing any time soon, there are thousands and thousands of ordinary, working-class Canadians, who are homeless or soon-to-be-homeless because property owners/landlords have been selling off their properties left, right and centre (mostly to foreign investment firms), who have tripled or even quadrupled the rent over the past year or so, until it is far beyond the reach of anyone, who is working poor or lower-middle class, especially if they are single. Just over this summer, ALONE, during the time I have (unsuccessfully) been looking for a new place to live, here in Ontario, you aren’t getting even the crappiest, flea-pit roach trap unless you are able to budget $2,000+ per month in rent, no matter WHERE in the Province you want to go, and every place I have viewed thus far, every property manager and/or every landlord has told me that they have *at least* 100-150 people in line ahead of me. This has resulted in bidding processes, and many places asking between six months to an entire year of rent up-front, even if your credit is nearly impeccable (mine is quite good, but not impeccable - past student loans will do that to you if it takes you a while to pay them back).
It almost seems that a very important plank of the “great reset” is to destroy the lower half of the middle class by rendering them homeless, or forcing them into a situation, where they will be living far beyond their means to even get sub-standard housing.
And, of course, the best that our “dreamy” Prime Minister Princess Justine Castro can come up with is some mealy-mouthed (bilingual, of course), statement that: “I know a lot of Canadians are hurting right now...”
I know full well that there are plenty of people out there, who are far worse off than I am, and after all, as a white male of JudeoChristian heritage, I am, of course, the Devil Incarnate in this current, “woke” political climate, but the fact remains that unless something changes and changes soon, I will be likewise joining the ranks of homeless at the end of this month, and will be putting everything I own into storage and couch-surfing with whichever friends and family will take me short-term until housing becomes more available and/or I can *DRASTICALLY* increase my income to match the new, economic realities that we find ourselves in. I likewise no longer kid myself that as I approach that dreaded age of 50, that realistic dreams of property ownership that I, and a lot of others like me had even five, ten years ago, have now become unattainable pipe dreams.
But who was it that said that another very important part of the Great Reset is that: “You will own nothing, and you will be happy!”.
I guess one way to achieve “equality” is to bring everyone down to the same level.
But I have no illusions.
Approaching 50, single, and priced out of the housing and even RENTING markets, I think that, even as a productive taxpayer, there are still a lot of elitists that would still consider someone like me a “useless eater”.
Still, there comes a point, where, no matter how conservative you think your viewpoints are, you have to admit that your bootstrap supply has gotten pretty darn thin.
I *am* thankful that I have a number of family and friends, who are willing to help me out over the short term, but that’s only going to go so far. There are plenty of others out there, who aren’t so lucky.
Canada has a fair chunk of hydro—and it doesn’t all freeze solid up here in the winter.
while Enbridge expects a price increase of $7 to $44 per year.>>>>>>>>>>>
DUH........what?
Yes, but they aren’t making any more rivers that can be economically dammed for hydro. But, yes, Hydro would be considered a renewable — and reliable.
I used to read one blog (since removed from WordPress) that called your prime minister “Justine Truvada.”
It depends on how much damage Simena and Manchin will be able to limit.
Dam right
In both the US and Canada we have the corrupt elite - politicians, media, high-tech - trying to steal as much as possible for themselves.
Then we have those of the lower class who think there are free goodies for themselves.
And we have those in the middle who are the useful idiots who always follow the corrupt elite. It is as if the middle class, being the newest that arose years ago between the aristocrats and the serfs, are too foolish to protect themselves.
Thus we are being thrown back into the old ruling order of the aristocrats and the serfs with no middle class.
Sounds like you guys are just catching up - welcome to the club!
Canada has a bifurcated society and a dumb electoral system.
The socialists like Tardeau are elected by city and urban smug, righteous, stupid lefty socialists. They think they are so cool suporting the latest ideologial virtue promulagteed by Tardeau and Co., and propagandized by the CBC, a government funded media lefty national TV and Radio mafia.
We folks who live out in the wild, or rural areas of Canada have no representation in governement m because we are controlled by the city. We have no Senate which is elected to bal;ance out the urban vote...and have to watch Canada go to socialist hell in a handbasket.
But sometimes we rural folk get to dance with glee. The idiot lefty ba$tards who are ruining Canada now get ti freeze their commie asses right off, they get supply shortages of food.
We rural people laugh at them and hold barn dances in honor of their freezing starving asses in the city.
We grow our own food and have no supply chain problems in the rural areas. And we bring down a lot of wild game....we won't be starving like the lefies will be.
But the real kicker is heating. We've been cutting our own firewood and making sure to heat exclusively with it ever since the first OPEC caused fuel shrtages in 1977. And while those lefties freeze their asses off due to fuel shortages and fuel costs.
WE WILL BE KCKING BACK IN OUR TOASTY LIVING ROOMS AND PARLOURS ...... FEET UP IN THE LAZY BOY IN FRONT OF THE WOOD STOVE.
SHIVER YOU STUPID TARDEAU LEFTIES...... SHIVER UNTIL YOU SKAKE THE STUPID RIGHT OUT OF YOURSELVES OR KICK OFF FROZEN DEADER THAN DOOR NAILS!!
Thank you for your input. I’m so sorry your Government is doing this to your country. Sadly, we’re right behind you. :(
