Older adults without heart disease shouldn't take daily low-dose aspirin to prevent a first heart attack or stroke, an influential health guidelines group said in preliminary updated advice released Tuesday.

Bleeding risks for adults in their 60s and up who haven't had a heart attack or stroke outweigh any potential benefits from aspirin, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force said in its draft guidance.

I take at least 2 3x per day with plenty of water to counter act the effects of J&J’s clot shot. Very noticeable improvement.

My doctors have had me on low dose aspirin for years. I asked my doctor about that a few years ago, he said in my case the benefits outlay the risks. I don’t have the healthiest lifestyle now that I’m older, but I have off the charts cholesterol and have had for years, can’t take statins.
I’ve read a few medical reports that say the drug companies push the cholesterol drugs to doctors, so hard to know what to believe anymore.

>>I eat eggs and don’t touch margarine.<<
>>If I am going to eat something, I want it to taste good. I use butter only.<<

Right? I think I’ll ask my wife to fire up the grill for a couple of soy burgers....lol

Hey, ya ought to see the youngin’s faces when I ask for paper in the grocery store. It’s a hoot.

All we are to them is subjects in a clinical study, some just happen to be in the control group.

That would be me, including:

I just happen to agree with them. Taking an aspirin for 'prevention' without addressing the real problem is no different than what spurred the oxy epidemic.

I remember when they told me to eat margarine instead of butter, then found out that was worse. Then eggs were bad, then they were ok. Finally I figured people had survived eating bacon, eggs, butter for centuries until some “smart experts” figured out how to conduct studies with expected outcomes and made money doing it.

Amazing. Was just thinking this morning about how medical folks said oats had healthy benefits, then backed away from that several years ago, and took a more neutral approach.

I take a low dose, 81 mg aspirin every day.

ANYTHING that is new and "just in" is suspect, imo.

I went through it all and now drink coffee with my bacon and eggs.

I’ve heard that if you take them as a daily regiment for a long time and then quit, you have a greatly increased chance of stroke.

You’re right. The bottle I have is 81mg. For some reason I thought it was 82mg. I was on a full aspirin 325mg for many years then in 2017 cardiologist told me the baby aspirin was sufficient for me.

I had gabapentin prescribed when I had shingles. People abuse it? I didn’t notice any “addictive tendencies” developing.
In fact, I needed a reminder app just to remember to take the stuff.

It's so annoying when these MSM reports don't include a link to the study that they are referencing.

My doctor told me this 12 years ago when I hit 50. I asked him about it because the aspirin companies promote an aspirin a day.

He told me this exact risk and not to do it.
