Older adults without heart disease shouldn't take daily low-dose aspirin to prevent a first heart attack or stroke, an influential health guidelines group said in preliminary updated advice released Tuesday.
Bleeding risks for adults in their 60s and up who haven't had a heart attack or stroke outweigh any potential benefits from aspirin, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force said in its draft guidance.

Informative article.
All we are to them is subjects in a clinical study, some just happen to be in the control group.
Taking an aspirin makes me feel better. I’m less likely to trust the current crew anyway if there’s conflicting suggestions.
I’d have to refresh my memory on this but I don’t think 82mg of aspirin each day creates a significant risk of bleeding. NSAIDs are probably likelier to create ulcers, which cannot be seen without a scope and thus very difficult to stop the bleeding vs superficial wounds.
As far as “without heart issues”, I think that is sort of the point of taking the low dose aspirin - to prevent them.
New study finds aspirin can significantly cut COVID risks — and even death
Hardly news.
About 18 years ago, I started taking aspirin in the morning, then read stuff online that said exactly this. Stopped. Probably take 2 aspirin/year for a headache.
Other drug that’s even worse: Fosamax. Given to women with osteoporosis. My doc did bone scan, thought I needed it, prescribed it. Also 18 years ago. Read up on it. It makes bones stronger by not allowing old bone cells to leave the body. They pile up in bones and after 7 or 8 years, make bones so brittle they have to break.
Pharmaceuticals basically suck.
Anyone who has taken one of the covid shots should be taking larger doses of aspirin each day for at least two weeks to minimize effects of myocarditis and potential blood clots.
Just yesterday I read an article that said taking an aspirin a day lessens the risk of catching COVID (https://www.webmd.com/lung/news/20210315/low-dose-aspirin-may-help-shield-you-from-covid-19#1), and I remember thinking “Wonder how long it will take to tell folks to stay away from aspirin?” lol
Trust Science. Trust the Experts.
Who do they work for and what are they selling?
They once told us margarine was good for us too.
I just read where daily aspirin will lessen the symptoms and potentially deadly complications from COVID.
Now today they issue this article telling people to stop taking it.
With indications coming out that aspirin helps reduce Covid risk, it’s time for our Deep State Handlers to tell us not to take aspirin. *eye roll*
My wife and I buy aspirin by the thousands. We both have great hearts, but we have joint problems, big time. Some days I go through 12 Aspirin per day. Been doing it for years with no apparent side effects. Drives our doctors nuts.
My minor dings clot up just fine and no stomach problems.
Everybody should evaluate their situation and act according to their best judgement.
Science is NEVER settled.
Bleeding risks for adults in their 60s and up who haven't had a heart attack or stroke outweigh any potential benefits from aspirin, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force said in its draft guidance.
Without a specific reason to avoid it (such as ulcers or hemophilia for examples), less active older folks (I've got my hand up) have more risk from bloodclots than they do of bleeding, particularly if they've already got a genetic predisposition to thick blood (hand up again). Other supplements should include vitaminds and minerals for arterial walls.
Am copying LilFarmer, as I thought something very similar when we exchanged posts today. The new recommendation has probably been in the works for some time, but the timing makes me chuckle!
Studies show there’s a lot of money to be made off of newer drugs still under patient protection.
But I thought the science was settled!
What do I do now? Been taking them for years. I have had chest pains which required stents but no actual heart attack. I guess I’ll have to talk to my doctor.
