Older adults without heart disease shouldn't take daily low-dose aspirin to prevent a first heart attack or stroke, an influential health guidelines group said in preliminary updated advice released Tuesday.

Bleeding risks for adults in their 60s and up who haven't had a heart attack or stroke outweigh any potential benefits from aspirin, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force said in its draft guidance.

My grandmother died in her 80’s from bleeding in her stomach, which the doctor attributed to aspirin use. So I would take this seriously.

It occurs to me that the bleeding risk caused by aspirin depends on how much food with vitamin k and c a person consumes.

Anyone have experience with Gabapentin? It seems like it is sort of treated like an opioid with the pharmacy even though it is not a controlled substance

Seeing a lot of stuff about it being abused. think they give it for shingles pain

My doc recommended 81Mg aspirin daily many years ago. I started doing that and then did some reading. I have been off of it for a couple of years now.

NOT SO FAST: Decades old research has proven that the survivability from hemorrhagic stroke (the real killer) is enhanced with aspirin while the incidence of ischemic stroke (not the real killer) is modestly increased with aspirin. Aspirin also reduces cancer incidence as well.

THAT right there is the crux of it. Aspirin is fine once in a while not every day.

The only thing that should be taken every day is water maybe vitamin C.

Didn’t read the article, but if it’s from the CDC I’ll ignore.

I have seen a new aspirin product that’s suppose to be easier on the gut:

The FDA approved the first liquid-filled aspirin capsule, Vazalore, which will be marketed in standard and low-dose versions.

However it’s still pricy at around a dollar per capsule.

A few slices of pineapple provides more vitamin c than you need.

I already take an anti-inflammatory medication (Piroxicam) that has aspirin in it, so I can’t take any additional aspirin products.

Old news - they keep vacillating (heh) between its better to help against clots and it ups the risk too much for internal bleeding and this doesn’t really add anything definitive one way or the other.

However these studies do not take into account the purported benefit that a daily aspirin may have in suppressing various adenocarcinomas.
