Southwest Airlines canceled hundreds more flights Monday following a weekend of major service disruptions.
According to Flightaware, the carrier has cancelled 348 flights Monday and delayed another 271 flights.
The Dallas-based airline had blamed air traffic control issues and weather for its weekend “operational challenges” that saw over 1,000 cancelled flights on Sunday alone. Southwest Airlines was the only airline to report the issues on that scale.
Southwest has struggled all summer with high numbers of delayed and canceled flights. In August it announced it was trimming its September schedule by 27 flights a day, or less than 1%, and 162 flights a day, or 4.5% of the schedule, from early October through Nov. 5.

quantas pilot rants..beautiful!!
It began on Inauguration DAY. He signed 17 executive orders that day. five on Coronavirus, five on immigration, two on the economy, two on equity, one on the census, one on ethics, and lastly, one on regulation.
It sure did begin on faux inauguration day.
Thanks for the reminder.
🥴
So what’s really going on here? A sickout?
That is my take, but who knows. I don’t think the pilots can “strike” officially. Police can’t either, but sickouts have been used in the past.
Thanks. It’ll be interesting to see if it spreads.
I’ve told my husband repeatedly NOT to book on SouthWest Airlines - I despise it.
Hate especially the open seating - we are always in the final boarding and have to sit rows apart in hated middle seats. Last time, we were the last to board and the “Flight attendant” had people raise their hands if there was an empty seat next to them. NO one raised their hand so the FA had to go down the aisle to find seats for us. NEVER AGAIN.
Ditto for Spirit and Sun Country airlines.
Maybe he’s doing this on purpose....
(married 30+ years).
“we were the last to board “
The way SW works is you can book early to get an A seat, or pay extra. I love how SW does it’s seating. I always make sure I am in Group A and board row 1 or 2 on the isle.
Vaxx bump for later....
It *is* a pain though. I would rather have a reserved seat, so there's no anxiety on where you'll end up sitting. I've thankfully never flown Spirit nor Sun Country airlines.
