Facebook is down, and not in a minor way. The Big Tech mammoth is down worldwide in a way in which they will not be able to easily recover as the DNS A and AAA records have been deleted. Technically speaking, facebook.com is now for sale.
They’re not alone. Instagram, WhatsApp, and others have also been affected in the same way. It’s clearly a coordinated attack on a massive scale, though it’s unclear how it was pulled off. We’re not talking about a simple DDoS attack. This is catastrophic and would have required high-level access to certain protocols that one cannot get from the outside.

Give ‘em time.
Stock is still trending up. Just a slight dip.
I use Instagram and WhatsApp.
Both are down.
This is a massive outage.
Can’t help but smile, with all the people FaceBook silenced
Now it’s FaceBooks turn.
Hope they enjoy the irony.
Another good graphic today!!
The DNS lost angle is techno-baloney. DNS part is working, in fact FB runs its own nameservers. Separately, FB domain name registration doesn’t expire until 2030.
Whatever is going on, is the typical “too many moving parts under the hood, and something got mixed up.”
Fake whistleblower. Wake up folks.
(And lots of other sites down today too.)
Let this be made permanent, like eternal.
wonder how they’ll send them... 🤔...
“I had a FB account. Hope they enjoy all the motorcycle and mountain climbing pics.”
That was good.
I use it because my parents can’t seem to operate anything else and I want to see their pictures.
Can anyone locate my “trying to give a damn” meter?
Stock is only down 5% today.
Some registrar still holds the domain record for Facebook.com. It's ain't going anywhere.
I could update AAA and A records on our local DNS server now for facebook.com and redirect to freerepublic.com. But we're just a small fry - who cares. And technically it would be illegal.
Now if someone made some updates so that public recursive name servers such as 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1 / 1.0.0.1 were sending people off to something other than facebook.com, then you could see some problems
There’s a small FR group on mewe
NCSWIC - I hope you’re right. This BS has gone on way too long.
Work offices all over the US have suddenly become more productive.
And just like that there is an uptick in worker productivity.
Smile...
Good one. Perhaps so...
I listened to Chris Plante this morning. He said a FB whistleblower was on a talk show last night. It was so serious that they involved Zuck in a rebuttal interview.
Or something like that. I was working the Nepresso machine and that is a little noisy.
Maybe he is busy deleting files that incriminate him about the election.
“It’s clearly a coordinated attack on a massive scale”, which will likely translate to something along the lines of “Software upgrade went bad”.
