I’ll have to brush up on my research, as stated above.

We were in our local Cambodian-run donut shop the other day, and I told Little Flash A about the expression “betting dollars to donuts”, being so sure of yourself that you give the other guy heavy odds, by putting a whole dollar up against something dirt cheap.
I then told him “these days, take the donuts”. The small ones were $1.50 each.

In Canada they could call it the Toonie Tree, but that’d be the equivalent of a buck and a half of U.S. dollars.

I’ve looked thru their food aisles and I must say, if the SHTF badly enough and they survived, you could eat 3 meals a day for about $10. You’d be as unhealthy as hell but you’d eat.

Dollar Tree everything a buck...some items 2 for $1. Dollar General has higher priced items. That explains why I often see luxury cars jammed in the parking lot by Dollar General. With bored servants sitting on the driver's side , waiting.

donuts up in price.....
There was a science fiction time travel story in which the guy tried to tell the one in the good old days how bad our future became. Maybe 1980s.
“You know 2 cents plain? (club soda or seltzer at old delis and lunch places).
“Yeah?”
“It’s a dollar.” (when Perrier started taking off in popularity)

I remember 25 cent bagels. Yesterday the local place had them for $1.26 .

They have shrunk their sizes and contents up to 50% I buy all sorts of cleaning supplies. Dish soaps and cleaning products are now half the size as they were. Many of the food products have vanished and those that are left are in bottles 1/2 the size as well. YAy Chomo Joe!!!

Since Abraham Lincoln is on both the penny and the five-dollar bill, I suggest we put the Biden on the penny. And then, stop making pennies.

I think most “dollar stores” these days have items priced at more than a dollar. Fake discounted news.”
Some have. Dollar Tree has always been just a dollar.

Lots of things at Dollar Tree cost more than a dollar! No they don't - literally everything is $1.00. Even says on the wall in large lettering in every store "Everything's $1"
