Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, the Marine officer whose meteoric rise to internet fandom began with a video criticizing military leadership over Afghanistan, is currently in the brig, his father told Task & Purpose.
“All our son did is ask the questions that everybody was asking themselves, but they were too scared to speak out loud,” said Stu Scheller Sr. “He was asking for accountability. I think he even asked for an apology that we made mistakes, but they couldn’t do that, which is mind-blowing.”
He said that his son is expected to appear before a military hearing on Thursday.
“They had a gag order on him and asked him not to speak,” the senior Scheller said. “He did, and they incarcerated him. They don’t know what to do with him.”
After this story was first published, the Marine Corps issued a statement confirming that Scheller has been sent to the brig.
“Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller Jr. is currently in pre-trial confinement in the Regional Brig for Marine Corps Installations East aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune pending an Article 32 preliminary hearing,” said Capt. Sam Stephenson, a spokesman for Training and Education Command. “The time, date, and location of the proceedings have not been determined. Lt. Col. Scheller will be afforded all due process.”
Scheller first gained notoriety when he posted a video on Facebook and Linkedin criticizing the handling of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. In the video, Scheller accused senior military leaders of shirking their responsibilities, and questioned some of the command decisions that were made leading up to, and during, the final moments of America’s longest war.
“People are upset because their senior leaders let them down, and none of them are raising their hands and accepting accountability or saying, ‘We messed this up,’” Scheller said.

All he did was ask some questions. That’s all he did. Also, he asked for an apology. That’s all he did. Some questions AND and apology. Mind blowing. Right.
While an American hero is made a political prisoner, a fat, insubordinate general is being coached how to lie under oath to the Senate.
This government can not be thrown on the ash heap of history quickly enough.
This is incredible. I am incredulous. That Vindman character did much worse and got put up for promotion. Jailing him merely for dissent? Oh maybe he did violate some code of conduct (I don’t know for certain) but put in the brig? For dissenting opinion? It seems to be heading that way for everyone.
Think about the absurdity of this.
He talked about his leader’s failures openly. He’s in the
brig.

defending him.
An hour ago, I saw the video of the Aussie cop choking a woman for not wearing a mask. Another group of Aussie cops slammed a man to the pavement for not wearing a mask even though he was outdoors and no one was near him. What has happened to Western Civilization? What is going on?

My only objection to the word “fascism” is that it is a term applied to the right; and it is the left that is doing this.
With the number of different incendiary statements he made undermining the authority of his chain of command, he absolutely knew he was risking getting some charges on his way out. Under the UCMJ, anything your commander doesn't like can be treated as a crime and punished however he or she sees fit as long as they want to do all the paperwork.
Very rarely is an O-5 brought up on charges, but Scheller was begging them to do it. It's a brave act to lay down a marker that says he really stands by all of his rhetoric at the risk of losing so much, but he stated repeatedly that he wanted this fight.
Hopefully, he'll demand a jury trial and compel more Marine officers to come out of their hidey holes and either stand with him in allowing his open defiance to challenge the chain of command (which will for sure carry through and shorten their own career prospects) or show their slimy underbellies that they are fine with the terrible leadership.
To my knowledge, he never disobeyed an order while on active duty, or encouraged anyone else to do so. He expressed his views as an American citizen. Do members of the military forfeit their First Amendment rights while off-duty? If so, something is wrong.
Hopefully he’s got evidence triggered for automatic release in his absense.
That fascism has ALWAYS been a leftist bent just *might* have something to do with its use here.
