A school shooter in suburban Denver was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Friday.
Devon Erickson, 20, was convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of classmate Kendrick Castillo, along with 45 other charges in connection with the 2019 attack at STEM School Highlands Ranch.
Castillo, 18, was hailed as a hero for trying to stop Erickson’s deadly massacre, which also injured eight people.
A jury found Erickson partnered with fellow student Alec McKinney to plan the attack for weeks. McKinney testified he wanted to target students who mocked him because he was transgender.
Judge Theresa Michelle Slade added hundreds of years to Erickson’s mandatory life sentence after hearing lengthy and emotional testimony from survivors.
“I don’t think there is anything I can say to you, Mr. Erickson, that would make any difference,” Slade said, adding the shooter never tried to explain his actions.
Erickson was stone-faced as the verdict was read, but his voice broke when the judge asked him if he wanted to speak, right after his family members testified that they loved him.
McKinney was sentenced to life in prison last year, but could be eligible for parole after 20 years since he was a juvenile.
The two shooters targeted a dark classroom where students were watching a movie. They entered through separate doors to maximize the carnage, and planned to have McKinney die, either by suicide or at the hands of his cohort, according to prosecutors.
The massacre was thwarted when Castillo and two other students, Joshua Jones and Brendan Bialy, charged Erickson as his gun jammed. McKinney was arrested by a security guard.

..........wow, Kendrick and his buddies must have re acted almost instantly to stop these two low lifes (given there was just 1 death). When the chips were down, they were YOUNG MEN...........not boys.
STORY NOTE: McKinney is a female who identifies as male and prefers to be called Alec. On Monday, the judge ruled that the suspect will be referred to as Alec in all court proceedings. CBS4 will refer to the suspect as Alec in all future posts.
A whole bunch of people in this country have lost their $#@&ing minds, and it will require a huge dose of painful reality to begin turning things around.
Most of the time, I can rationalize a degree of normalcy. But every once and a while, something reaches out and shakes me out of that. Quite often, the thing that triggers the rate-of-change 'alarm' is a very common or small thing.

Look at this conversation we are having: Karpov's comment "...They currently refer to Erickson as “he”, meaning that “he” is actually female..." just made me sit up as if I had never seen this before. (Of course I have, hundreds of times, but it made me feel as if I hadn't.)
As Karpov's observation sunk in, I realized "This is normal conversation now. People have to actually have this conversation to understand reality. Back as recently as the Seventies or Eighties, having a conversation like this would most often have been very narrowly focused, not in public, and dealt with individuals or groups who would have been found in the Combat Zone in Boston or the alleys off Via Roma in Naples, Italy. It would not be found in general discourse, or...in K-12 school systems.
But here we are, genuinely discussing the finer points that bear on the understanding of reality: Are they discussing a man or a woman? In the recent past, a witness to these conversations we have to have today would feel as though they were a witness to lunacy.
Oh, sure. Everyone EVENTUALLY learns the shorthand to this and does the Orwellian gymnastic in their brains automatically. This transaction will take place in the brain in milliseconds:
When we hear that the average intelligence level is dropping in modern societies, I sometimes wonder if the capacity for intelligence is unchanged, but the available intelligence is being reduced by the overhead of your brain having to do stupid crap like this thought process. Before, when it was uncommon, people had to reason this out. Now, we waste some intellectual millicycle time running idiotic and wasteful algorithms in our minds.
And this is just ONE stupid, useless algorithm your brain has to process that it didn't have to before. I'll bet all those little Mickel's will add up to a Muckle.
This struck me as a sign of a very sick society. Not from you folks, of course. You are doing what rational people do. What I see and hear in this effort to control speech somehow reminds me of the quote most often attributed to Alexandr Solzhenitsyn, though that is in question. But it sure as hell sounds like he said it, for it describes perfectly a large scale totalitarian society:

People need to stop pretending this is a legitimate condition. There should be no acceptance, only treatment.

I think it’s a little worse than that, actually. We’re a guinea pig state - deep state minions come here for black ops training. Colorado’s always a couple of years behind everybody else, culturally speaking. It’s easy to trick, scam, and gull people here. East and West Coasters who are overwhelmed with crime and chaos come here so they can buy a few more years of reality-denial. (They get experimented on, too.)
I watch a variety of youtube videos, mostly to follow the AZ audit, which is ignored or misreported by most media.
To avoid being shut down, the presenters are forced to use silly terms, like “balloons” for ballots, the “selection” for the election, etc. Youtube’s diktators have successfully forced people who want to report news and opinions to twist everything into something it is not, or be denied a voice. As a consumer, I can participate in the farce, or not hear about news the mainstream media doesn’t want to have covered. It’s not even ironic that the subject they are covering up is FRAUD. We are living in an age of enforced falsity.

I think what irritates conservatives as much as anything (including being forced to accept it!) is the expectation that you must celebrate the lunacy.
Like Winston in Orwell’s 1984 who is being forced to actually believe 2+2=5.
They expect the same of us. To them, “Silence is Violence” which means paying lip service to get them off your back or shutting up completely is not acceptable.
Like people applauding for Stalin, you must stand and do it as well. And don’t be the last one starting to clap or the first one to stop.
