Ancient Rome was a republic for nearly 500 hundred years (509 BC to 27 BC) before it descended into a military dictatorship…a la the Caesars Not true, stopped reading.

Rome’s failure was its debauchery. We are just as bad. Their leader was a nut case, and so is ours. He gave them their games in the colosseum. Our fine leader is now allowing the MLB, NFL and college football games to be attended by fans, just as Nero did in Rome. To keep the people happy. So, we will not attack him. Give us our games!!! Same thing, different time. Our lives have become as the Romans were. Our nation is going right off the same cliff Rome did.

Actually the Roman Republic began in 509BC and lasted until 29BC. 509BC - 29BC = 482 years. Close enough to 500 years.
