Chris Christie locked horns with Roland Martin on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday, when the former New Jersey governor was called out for his role in bringing Donald Trump to power and, therefore, the establishment of the future character of the Republican party.
The two political analysts discussed Trump’s still strong influence over the GOP even after losing last year’s election. Christie said that by tying themselves to Trump and his continued false claims that the election was stolen from him, Republicans are endangering their long-term viabiilty as a political party.
“I’m on a course to make sure my party remains relevant in the political conversation in this country,” said Christie, who has become one of Trump’s loudest Republican critics as an analyst on ABC’s “This Week.”
But Martin took exception to this, saying that Republicans have already committed themselves to Trumpism and that Christie cannot completely distance himself from Trump’s rise to power within the party.

Oh, I see, so that is the newest absolute disqualification: any Trump association whatsoever.
Putting Trump in power is a feather in your cap.
Act like it.
Christie is a POS along with his bush buddies. The majority of the republican party supports Trump’s platform. Trump is only carrying the message. In actuality, anyone that carried the same message would be supported. That’s what these idiots don’t get, it’s not about Trump, it’s about America.
I fail to understand why Christie receives so much free media time and space!!
Christi is dead to me. No vote for him, never no matter what.
Same reason John McCain and Mitt Romney did. Medi Media loves to pick out our losers for us.
Christie is indeed butt hurt because he did not get a place in the Trump Administration.
Hilarious that this fat loser still think he is relevant.
That’s true. All these aspiring leaders need to do is speak the truth and keep their promises, and they will win support and be loved by the people - just like Donald Trump.
What amazes me is the fact that hardly any of them have the sense to take advantage of this amazing opportunity to win.
Why do they all double down on globalism, open borders, race-baiting and wealth redistribution - things the American people hate?
It’s like they want to lose.
Crispie can join W in the shiite hole they both belong in.
But, his buddying up to “president” Saetoro, in ‘12, in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, was AOK!
I’m waiting for Trump to reveal how Christie got down on his hands and knees begging to be a part of his administration and Trump said no because he was too laden with baggage. Then, perhaps Trump will treat us with a new nickname for him.
Curious how that works! Excellent point. Presumably he looks back on the Obama years and sighs, wistfully.
Until Trump came along, the republican party had no future. RINOism is an intellectually lazy form of nihilism. They believe in nothing, but are too lazy to examine why they believe in nothing or what the consequences of believing in nothing are except free booze at your lobbyists country club and the occasional packet of money for expenses.
If Chris Christie receives even 1 vote from someone other than himself or his family in the 2024 primaries, I will be stunned. I am not being sarcastic with my statement either.

Roland Martin - People like him make me incredulous of those on the right who run around in circles over race.
