I do not know but Ronald Reagan did call his wife Nancy “Mommie”. It was nothing strange, but from a deep affection.
The woman gave him the pin, then hung up...and called the police.
He had always called his wife "mother" and even though their children were grown and gone, always called her that to honor her. When he used her real name, she knew immediately that he was in some kind of danger. The carjacker was quickly caught by their quick thinking!
So no, this is no big deal.
I don’t care what he calls his wife. I do care when he calls a stolen election “legitimate”.
I remember a couple of rural families here in northwestern Indiana farm country who referred to each other as ‘mother’ and ‘father.’ Both couples had 4-6 children and it probably came from that being how they raised their children to address them. This was back in my childhood in the 1950s. And I recall a couple of great Aunts and Uncles in central Ohio who had large families and used the same forms of address.
Thus it is a family/cultural thing. And those attacking Mr. Pence for using it shows either ignorance and/or willful insulting of those who use it; especially toward a politician they don’t like.
“So what if he does, he is of the same age as many of us who call our wives of many decades, Mother, Mama or Grandma or even Honey.”
I agree 100%. This is a dump thread and should be deleted for wasting bandwidth.
The Left just twists everything.
If he does, who cares?
When my kids were young, I called my wife “mom.”
Now that we have grandkids, I call her “Mia” (their name for her).
To our kids, I refer to their mom “jomama”.
To the grand kiddies, I suppose I’ll start referring to her as jogrammar.

My kids are grown but when I talk to them I call my wife “Mom”...... But to others by her first name.....
“Mother” does sound a little like Norman Bates.....
However, the entire issue is ridiculous...
I also know many who use “Mother” including my own in laws. Never thought much about it
My grandpa always called my grandma Mother. She called him Dad. Of course they were considerably older than Mike Pence. She passed away 14 years ago and he’s still alive and kicking at 91.
Of all the issues I might have with Pence, his calling is wife ‘mother’ is way, way down the list.
They were "Grandpa" and "Gramma" to us descendents, and still are to this day, though they are long gone.

When speaking to my kids regarding my wife, I routinely say things like “Mom would like you to...”, and she refers to me as Dad in conversations with them.
I always thought it must be tough for the Pences - they were so mediocre compared to the extraordinary impossible to ignore Trumps.
In fact, I bet a lot of the daily grind people in DC felt that way.
My husband thinks he married a woman named Honey.
Great story! Thanks for sharing.
