Climate change: Animals shapeshifting to stay cool, study says

When you hear the word "shapeshifting" you probably think of a sci-fi or horror film, and not the climate.

But that's what scientists say is happening to some animals in response to climate change.

Warm-blooded species are evolving to have larger beaks, legs and ears to regulate body temperature as the planet warms up, a new study suggests.

The scientists behind the study warn the physiological changes do not mean animals are coping with climate change.

"A lot of the time when climate change is discussed, people are asking 'can humans overcome this?' or 'what technology can solve this?'" says the study's author, Sara Ryding, from Deakin University.

"It's high-time we recognised that animals also have to adapt to these changes."

What a relief. When I first glanced at the headline, I thought it said animals were shoplifting. And I gotta tell you, there’s nothing worse than a shoplifting animal (especially kangaroos).

We had some hot days this summer. I noticed that the dog didn’t change his habits (laying on the bed on the warm 2nd story floor). The cat however would hang out on the tile landing in the basement where it was much cooler.

They are not evolving. There is no added information in their genetic code and there are no new species. Their genetic code already has the information needed, they are just adapting.

The elite scientists have changed the meaning of the word "evolution" so that any change in any animal can be claimed as evolution.

I’ve seen videos of ducks, coons and bears walking out of convenience stores without paying for the snacks. Given the pouch and those getaway legs, a looter kangaroo would not stop at a bag of chips. *shudder*

One time i was walking my new puppy (Blue Heeler) down the street. We stopped in to a toy store to look at toys for my grandchild - left without buying anything. A minute later, we're walking down the sidewalk and the sales girl is behind us going "sir? excuse me. I think your dog left without paying for something" I go "huh?" I look down and the puppy is sheepishly looking up at us with a giant stuffed Great White Shark toy in her mouth. Oh, boy, "you're going to jail, now"

Thnakfully, the young lady took the toy away, wiped off the schmutz and returned to the store with the toy. No charges were pressed.

A week later the puppy ate an old brick she found in the yard. Gotta love the Blue Heelers
