I think most of those guys were brought in from out of town. New Orleans’ cops walked away.

Far too expensive. New hookups and new construction would be a nightmare. And then what to do with all the transformers, etc.

Yep, for the moment I still have power, but the lights flicker often. So, not sure how much longer I will have power.

Will the eye pass over us, or just miss us on the west side? Still strong winds, but hopefully not getting the eye winds might just make a big difference as to the damage sustained.

Good for generator sales, most of which I’m sure are manufactured outside the United States or sourced with Chinese parts.

I was stationed there for two years. The Quarter was safe as long as you didn’t wander down the side streets. Of course that was 1979, so…

For New Orleans, the problem is even worse in that the levees have led to the deposit of silt that has gradually raised the level of the river. Over time, the water in the river has gotten higher, while pumping to keep water out of the city has compacted and lowered the level of the soil in the city.

Eventually, as it has many times in the past, the Mississippi will find a new course to the sea, probably to the north of Baton Rouge mostly along the Atchafalaya River. This would put the Mississippi's new outlet to the Gulf at Morgan City, Louisiana, a route that has the benefit of being 193 miles shorter, steeper, and faster than the current course through New Orleans.

This would make New Orleans into a secondary port at best, without ready access by ship and barge to the upper river.

Here in Puerto Rico all we got was very heavy rain which frankly we can use. Now if we could only get our reservoir system better developed.
