The Pentagon on Sunday activated the Civil Reserve Air Fleet that will allow commercial airlines to assist with the Biden administration’s evacuation of Americans and Afghans at risk of reprisals by the Taliban, according to a report.
The program will enable 20 airlines, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, among others, to support the evacuation efforts of US citizens and Afghans with special immigrant visas from Europe and the Middle East, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The airlines wouldn’t fly into Afghanistan, where the Biden administration is struggling to evacuate thousands from Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, but would ferry the evacuees from bases in Germany, Qatar and Bahrain.

This should have happened “4 or 5 days ago”. At Bagram AFB.
1) first, evacuate the military
2) second, herd American civilians into a small, dangerous one runway airport
3) finally, assure trapped citizens that they have a week to navigate the cluster they created.

This is an old program. I think it’s only been used a couple times...under Obama I think. Hard to get a lot of correct info...and wiki is...well...wiki.
How well are the airline companies compensated for this is what I’d like to know.

Undoubtedly Joe Stolen got assurances from his Taliban buddies that the airliners would be unharmed as they arrive and depart...

I know we flew in troops and equipment first. It’s just a basic logistical principal that guys like Biden and company missed in childhood while Tgey were too busy influence peddling and bragging.
I believe there is an ongoing contract, i.e., sounds like they get paid annually for being on stand by.
They won’t be flying into Afghanistan.
The Civil Reserve Air Fleet has been around for decades, probably for the Cold War. I remember learning about it in the early 1980s. I If I recall correctly it was used during the first gulf war to ferry troops and equipment.
