FDA is pushing to approve Pfizer-BioNTech’s two-dose Covid-19 vaccine Monday, further expediting earlier timeline for licensing shots, according to people familiar with the agency’s planning.
Regulators working to finish process by Friday but were still working through substantial paperwork and negotiation with the company. People familiar with planning, who weren't authorized to speak publicly about it, cautioned that the approval might slide beyond Monday if some components of the review need more time.
An F.D.A. spokeswoman declined comment.
The agency had recently set an unofficial deadline for approval around Labor Day.
The approval expected to pave the way for series of vaccination requirements by public and private organizations who were awaiting final regulatory action before implementing mandates. Federal and state health officials are also hoping that approved vaccine will draw interest from some Americans who have been hesitant to take one that was only authorized for emergency use, a phenomenon suggested by recent polling.
Some universities and hospitals are expected to mandate inoculation once a vaccine is fully approved. The Pentagon earlier this month said it plans to make Covid vaccinations mandatory for the country’s 1.3 million active-duty troops “no later” than the middle of next month, or sooner if the F.D.A. acts earlier.
Once obtains approval, Pfizer-BioNTech planning to quickly ask the F.D.A. to approve a third dose as a booster shot. The Biden administration on Wednesday announced that fully vaccinated adults should prepare to get booster shots eight months after they received their second doses, beginning Sept. 20. Pfizer expected to finish submitting data that it says shows a third shot is safe and effective next week.
The F.D.A. last week updated its authorizations of Pfizer-BioNTech’s and Moderna’s vaccine to allow third doses for some immunocompromised people, a decision backed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Do the Pharma companies assume the legal liabilities AFTER approval that is something I would like to know!! Surely can NOT go on with NO liability EVER!!

The delay is probably due to the list of warnings being so long that they had to change the packaging to accommodate the 3 page list. You were warned....means no liability to them.

Five years ago, an FDA approval might have meant something to me. Not anymore. Now, I assume the U.S. government is no more capable of safely testing vaccines than it is at managing a surrender in Afghanistan.

They can’t have an advisory board this time because a third overturning would really look bad.

Perhaps this vaccine was developed before COVID-19?
I’ll have to dig, but a month or two ago there was a presentation by a PhD who worked at an intellectual property holding company who researched all the coronavirus related patents going back decades.
Pfizer has a coronavirus patent going back to 1999, related to dogs, IIRC.
It has been the normal 5 to 7 to approve the fake vaccine? How time flys.
