Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice wrote in a new op-ed that the past four U.S. presidents share blame for the crisis in Afghanistan, adding that they all made mistakes that have culminated in the Taliban retaking the country this week.
"The past years in Afghanistan have been difficult for every president, our armed forces, our allies and our country. The sacrifices of those who served — and those who died — will forever sear our national memory," Rice wrote in The Washington Post. "Each of us who held positions of authority over those years made mistakes — not because we didn’t try or were heedless of the challenges. But the United States could not afford to ignore the rogue state that harbored those who attacked us on 9/11. The time will come to assess where we failed — and what we achieved.

Looks like he over achieved on the time line.
We see how that all worked out in half the time GW allotted and Rice played a big part. We were lied to right on down the line.
That said, Obama is the one who destroyed the Afghan project. He was playing for the other side.
All the Bushies weigh in after 4 years of silence under Trump.
useful idiot.
Wonder just when Rice and Powell knew that Bin Laden had left Afghanistan and was given comfortable refuge in Pakistan.
Auntie Tom.
Yep, the biggest mistake was handing over the operation in Afghanistan to Rice and her State Dept wonks before military operations were really finished. The resulting ROEs that she initiated resulted in killed / maimed soldiers.
If they didn't, they should have. These clowns are basically worthless.
“sear our national memory”
“seared in my memory...” Has a familiar ring to it.
Mistakes were made.

Yes, the use of passive voice is a very popular in DC. You hear it used often to evade responsibility or accountability.
Ever notice how they all claim to be associated with any semblance of success yet claim ignorance and detachment whenever there’s a failure or problem? Its all just a game to them.
You’re certainly correct. Sad, isn’t it.
Prick.
She's, perhaps, the first person to accept at least part of the blame for this fiasco. I've always liked her a lot, even though I disagree with her on some issues, including this one.
Afghanistan is an amalgam of autonomous tribes. The Taliban simply melted back into their own tribes when Bush's armies showed up, and now they've come back.
She is a prick
Condi, I disagree. The people of Afghanistan chose and continue to choose the Taliban. The choices is made for evil when good does not stand up and fight against evil. All evil needs to succeed is for good men/women to not oppose them.
If you allow evil to come to your neighbor, it is only a matter of time until evil comes to you. This is one of the many lessons that America should have been teaching but failed to do so.
CR doesn’t have much room to criticize. Her foreign policy during the Israeli conflicts with Hamas and Hezbollah was disastrous.
None of which were as big as the one her boss made getting us into there in the first place.
The mistake was the now Taliban leader tried to surrender in 2001. We didn’t accept it.
He tried to surrender again under Obama too. We didn’t take it.
The timeline is actually pretty darn clear we won this conflict several times and didn’t accept their surrender and get out.
Ignore Condi, punish Susan and forgive Jerry (JR left 49ers to be a Raider).
.
It’s crystal clear the results produced by Trump were close to perfect, yet she fails to grasp that central fact.
Again, if Obama had Trump’s results, she’d pray to him three times a day.
