Allies round on US over Afghanistan 'debacle'

Berlin (AFP) - Allies and critics alike on Monday condemned the United States over the botched end to its 20-year NATO campaign in Afghanistan.

Stunned by the Taliban's lightning advance across the country after the departure of Western troops, NATO allies have been left scrambling to evacuate their nationals as well as vulnerable Afghans.

In a meeting with her party's top brass, German Chancellor Angela Merkel admitted that developments in the country were "bitter".

She said however that once the United States decided to withdraw from Afghanistan, it was clear that Germany and other allies had to follow suit.

The decision was "ultimately made by the Americans", and "domestic political reasons" were partly to blame, said the chancellor, according to participants in the meeting.

Britain has also slammed the American decision to leave Afghanistan, with Defence Secretary Ben Wallace warning on Friday that the Taliban's resurgence would create a breeding ground for extremists that threatened the world.

"Of course Al-Qaeda will probably come back," he said, warning that would lead to "a security threat to us and our interests".

The rare criticism of the US's role by allies dovetailed with negative voices from China and Russia.

Beijing has repeatedly lambasted what it sees as the hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan as a failure of leadership, while Moscow has said the pullout meant the US had failed in its mission in Afghanistan.

For Wallace, the Taliban takeover was a "failure of the international community", as he accused the West of short-sightedness.

"If it's a failure, it's a failure of the international community to not realise that you don't fix things overnight," he said.

Retired Navy SEAL calls for resignations of top Biden admin officials: ‘They’ve abjectly failed’!

Derrick Van Orden says Afghanistan crisis shows ‘broken’ national security system

Top officials are facing backlash after the Biden administration’s announcement to withdraw all U.S. troops from Afghanistan by Sept. 11 opened a path for the Taliban to take control of the country.

In an interview on “Fox & Friends,” retired Navy SEAL and Wisconsin congressional candidate Derrick Van Orden called on Biden’s top diplomatic advisers to resign, saying they failed in their duty to advise the president.

DERRICK VAN ORDEN: I did two tours in Afghanistan in 2003 and 2009, and, unfortunately, the Biden administration is redefining the word incompetence.

You’ve got Secretary Blinken and Secretary Austin. They need to tender their resignations right now.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Milley, he needs to go peel potatoes in the galley for about a month and then resign also.

These folks’ primary duty is to advise the president of the United States on diplomatic and military matters and they’ve abjectly failed that. The national security architecture of the United States of America is clearly broken right now.

And this is playing out in real time. People can’t pretend like this isn’t happening. We truly understand now that the emperor has no clothes. As a matter of fact, we don’t even know if he’s wearing clothes right now because he has disappeared from the public.

The president of the United States, in clearly the most dramatic foreign policy crisis in the United States in a very, very long time, probably since Sept. 11, 2001, has disappeared. Jen Psaki has taken the week off too. This is unacceptable.

Depends on how you look at it.

The Democrats are certain that this catastrophe will be forgotten by November 2022, by which time we'll be dealing with the Taishika variant, and mail-in balloting will be bigger than ever.

Well, I am not applauding what has happened, but why must our allies depend entirely upon our involvement? Why couldn't, or wouldn't even, they have thrown more of their resources at Afghanistan?

They sure as heck had no problem throwing their resources into stealing our 2020 election.

And here I thought all those foreign leaders were looking forward to working with a skilled diplomat and big picture thinker like Biden as opposed to someone like Trump.

As they say, be careful for what you wish for, as you just might get it.

As Amir Tsarfati said, today starts the “post-American” world. This is why America is not mentioned in the Book of Revelation.
