The Delta variant has changed the equation for achieving herd immunity, the developer of the Oxford/AstraZeneca has said.
Speaking at a UK parliamentary meeting on Tuesday, Sir Andrew Pollard, a professor of paediatric infection and immunity at the University of Oxford, said that achieving herd immunity is "not a possibility" now that the Delta variant is circulating.
"We know very clearly with coronavirus that this current variant, the Delta variant, will still infect people who have been vaccinated and that does mean that anyone who's still unvaccinated, at some point, will meet the virus," Pollard said.
He said it was unlikely that herd immunity will ever be reached, saying the next variant of the novel coronavirus will be "perhaps even better at transmitting in vaccinated populations."

Nothing can stop that transmission.

Deep down here in Broward county FL is a good example of sheep obeying unconstitutional “mandates”. It’s literally nauseating seeing these sheep walk around, often alone, with a diaper on their faces.
They’re afraid of air. (Broward went 75% slojo yeah, it’s sickening living here)
I stopped buying beer at the nearest 711 because I walked in once without a mask on and they stood there with their arms behind their backs. And said, no mask no service. Haven’t set foot back there since. And I bought a lot of beer.
These people are pitiful. Nearly 95% of the people in walmart had face diapers on last Sunday. They look at you unmasked like you’re a freak or something.
You can delay herd immunity,
but you can’t escape it.
Herd immunity, like always, happens when enough people catch covid-19, and get over it. Their redefining it non withstanding.
Why do you care if other people wear a mask?

What I think is being ignored by our esteemed scientists is this bat virus was engineered to infect human beings. Unlike a virus that had to spend an untold number of tries to jump species and whose ability to adapt to human immunity is not very efficient, the Chicom bioweapon is quite adept at doing so.
Even if vaccination reduces transmission in half, this bug still would have a transmission rate of four. Meaning four new cases for every infection rather than eight. In either case, almost all of us will be exposed at some point if this holds true.
What did they think was going to happen, that no variants would happen??

Masks did no good, mask hygiene was horrible, so bad in fact masks probably made the spread worse. I know, because I’ve fit tested for masks as PPE for a whole career. The way people works masks for covid was an absolute joke.
Agreed 100% - very few people know how to don and doff a mask.
Of course vaccinated people can transmit the virus IF THEY ARE INFECTED. THIS is NOT NEWS. Post trial studies showed that, compared to the unvaccinated, the vaccinated had 90% FEWER infections that were DETECTABLE. If you don’t have a detectable infection, you are not infectious and can’t “transmit the virus”. So yes, that 10% of vaccinated who had detectable viral loads could potentially infect others. But the unvaccinated were becoming detectably infected (and hence infectious) at TEN TIMES THE RATE of the vaccinated.
Vaccinated people are getting infected, where have you been for the last few weeks??
