'I’m not going to let you die’: San Diego County deputy overdoses after coming in contact with fentanyl
Los Angeles Times ^ | August 6, 2021 | Karen Kucher

The accidental fentanyl exposure hit San Diego County sheriff’s Deputy David Faiivae quickly. It was an overdose.

*** Faiivae’s near-fatal overdose on July 3 was the subject of a 4-minute video released by the Sheriff’s Department on Thursday.

The incident became part of the latest public warning about fentanyl, a drug blamed for 461 fatal overdoses in San Diego County in 2020 and which officials warn could kill 700 in 2021. The drug is an increasing problem among inmates in county jails as well.

*** In the body camera video, Faiivae’s training officer, Cpl. Scott Crane, tells him the substance he found had tested positive for fentanyl and cautions him, “that stuff’s no joke — it is super dangerous.”

Faiivae then takes a step backward and topples over.

Crane checks on the deputy and then races to his patrol car for naloxone, also known by the brand name Narcan, a nasal spray used to reverse the effects of opioids. “I ran over to him and I grabbed him, and he was ODing,” Crane later recalled.

Crane sprays the medication into one of Faiivae’s nostrils, then the other and moves to loosen Faiivae’s bulletproof vest under his uniform shirt.

“Just breathe, buddy, breathe,” Crane tells Faiivae, according to the video. When he asks his trainee if he is OK, Faiivae replies in a weak voice: “I’m sorry.”

“You’re OK. Don’t be sorry... I got you, OK?” Crane says. “I’m not going to let you die. I’m not going to let you die.”

Faiivae’s overdose happened around 4 p.m. in a parking lot in northern San Diego County during his first radio call of the day. The deputy works patrol out of the San Marcos sheriff’s station. It was his final day of shadowing the veteran Crane, officials said.

These brave LEOs risk their lives everyday with almost no recognition thanks to the BLM radicals.

Remind me again why we allow Chicoms to poison us with fentanyl? Reason enough to cut off trade.

This actually sounds like carfentanyl.

why we allow Chicoms to poison us with fentanyl?

Because our appetite for it is immense.

And China is merely a supplier. The Sacklers are (or were) actually promoters.

Don’t blame the Chinese. Don’t blame the politicians who flooded the nursing homes with Covid. Don’t blame Biden/Harris for allowing thousands of illegals to cross with infectious diseases and drugs. Haven’t you been watching the news?? Blame the unvaccinated.

Unrestricted Warfare.

They wrote a book on it.

And not once in the article is the source cited or how it got here. The LA Slimes would never let the truth get in the way of their agenda.

Stupid selfish doper bastards.

We have a state trooper friend with a drug dog.
The dog is also in peril, every day.
The trooper carries Narcan on him, just in case, but for himself and his dog, not just the dumb junkies.
I’d be sorely tempted to just let them go, if I were him.

A chemical modification that makes fentanyl 100x more powerful.

This is the usual cause of accidental OD in LEOs and lab people - enough is absorbed by touch (through the skin), or by breathing the air, to kill someone.

We allow it because Washington DC is completely corrupt and the powers that be rigged a fake election to get a puppet into power so they could sell more influence.

The reason the Chinese are doing it to us, is because the British did it to them, and they probably figure Americans are the same as Brits. Plus they make a lot of money doing it, which is why the Brits did it to them.

Manufactured by the ton by China. Biden doesn’t care as long as he gets his cut.

Overdoses would drop dramatically if the junkies *knew* there would be no last minute Hail Mary to save their stupid asses.

The whole lot of them are not worth one single cop or K9.

Has to be. I took 8 hours of fentanyl training a few months ago and they were VERY expicit about how impossible it is to absorb dermally, even in cases where the skin is abraded.

Very scary. He could have checked out within a few more minutes. Good thing Officer Crane had the training and clarity of mind to fetch the antidote to that overdose.

I know nothing about police training systems, but I would have thought they would be wearing latex gloves anyway.
Apparently not. Maybe such incidents are still rare, and the gloves would get in the way of a search.

Saw this earlier today on a local station. Pretty amazing video. You hear the stories about “just touching it can kill you”, but seeing is believing. This stuff could very easily be weaponized, and the results would be terrifying.

Actually, survival isn't an instinct too high on the list for most junkies. In fact, when a bad/OD level batch gets out on the streets, they actively seek it out.

Similar drug to fentanyl except much stronger used to tranquilize elephants and other large mammals. A chunk the size of half a grain of sand will kill you dead.
