My take is that too many *billions* were siphoned off for ‘inner city mass transit’ that has **nothing** to do with highways but plenty yo do with political pork spending.
We already pay via the federal gas tax
Its their fault for not allocating the collected monies properly.
Exactly. What worries me as much as the tax is how they’re going to track you to calculate it.
Also, this is a seriously regressive tax, that is, it falls more heavily on the lower income. Rich people either don’t have to commute to work or don’t commute as far, whereas the lower end of the wage scale often lives some distance from their work and is often nowhere near public transportation. Thus the poorer people pay more. Somebody should point that out to these socialist overlords.
You have a dim view of Americans.
If you vehicle has a tracking system such as OnStar, they can activate it to get your mileage, even if you have stopped paying for the service.
You also seem to think Americans aren’t taxed enough for infrastructure.
Rural America gets it again. First the hike in gas prices. Now they are trying to sequester people so they can’t interact with each other. Just another foreshadow of the coming of the Great Tribulation. This is so anti-Christ.
Exactly.
If they gave a damn about efficiency, the gasoline, licensing, and other taxes (commercial trailer taxes) are more than enough to take car of the roads. But, when it’s not your money, you don’t give a damn. What we need is a good Tax Revolt!
I can't imagine that all the newly-liberated work-from-homes are going to be anxious to go back to a daily commute.
No.
The U.S. government will let the nation’s highway infrastructure crumble to sh!t before they ever implement something like this.
The reason for this is simple:
1. Americans want
/ since when has .gov done a damn thing Americans want. Your logic fails./
to be able to travel wherever they want but don’t want to spend money on anything that doesn’t translate directly to a tangible service that benefits them personally (like an airline ticket).
/ maybe, maybe not. But the fact is we get gas taxed up the butt and the work never seems to get done./
2. Infrastructure is a very low priority for most people because they don’t want to invest a penny in anything that’s still going to be there after they are gone.
/ maybe that’s how you roll,
but ‘ most’ people
aren’t selfish shortsighted libtards in my opinion/

You are quite the piece of work is another opinion of mine.
So.....
Bless your heart.
I know people who pay $25,000+ per year in property taxes, and they’re fine with it because they see a tangible value associated with it — namely, that 90% of that money goes to the local school district where their kids attend school.
These same people will complain loudly when the state hikes the fuel tax, and their annual fuel tax expenditures go from $600 to $800.
The reason they don’t want to spend the $800 — or even the $600 — is that they’re planning to move out of the state as soon as their kids are out of school.
At the very least we are about to be taxed into prosperity .... right ?
Gas taxes should be paying for infrastructure. Where is the return on investment?
Well, it makes a lot of sense to apply such a thing to electric car since they don’t pay any gas taxes. If they’re getting their electricity from the wall then they’re going to need to pay some sort of a per mile tax in order to pay their fair share for road building and maintenance.
The Democrats’ new poll tax.
It’s really that simple.
EVs don’t pay a gas tax, but they use the highways.
Do you have any idea what it costs to maintain a highway system?
