EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – A petition has collected more than 8,000 signatures from people upset over MSU’s move to make vaccines mandatory.
But the organizer says it’s not about the vaccine.
“I got vaccinated, I believe in them. But I also think it’s up to everyone’s choice on whether or not they want to get vaccinated, so that’s my opinion on it,” said Madison Sokazz, an MSU student.
The announcement sparked a petition on change.org by senior Peter Sarotte.
“My main goal is to inspire students around the country to stand up against these mandates and focus on what really matters here. It’s very unfortunate that many students will have to pick over finishing their education and inserting something into their body they might not feel comfortable with,” he said.
Sarotte hopes to unite students under the idea of freedom of choice.
With the delta variant still driving up COVID cases around the country, some students say they are comfortable returning to campus and are not sure if the mandate is the proper way to address the pandemic.
“I don’t know if it’s because so much time has gone by that I’m itching to get back to normal as soon as possible, but I’m comfortable,” said Sokazz.
“I understand that some people hesitant to get it and a little mistrust behind it, but I think that’s the only thing I’m ehh about, about, requiring people get the vaccine .But I personally believe in the vaccine and I got a vaccine,” said MSU community member Veren Aben.
Of course, the argument goes both ways.
Both the University Council and MSU’s student government have both gone on the record in support of a vaccine mandate.
“Having as many people vaccinated would be advantageous for us, because we want to return to those spaces in a way we can trust that we are safe and we are keeping each other safe,” said MSU student president Georgia Frost.
The precedent that mandated vaccination sets is scary!

If the pro-vaxxers really want to bump the numbers up, they should be discussing the co-morbidities that significant COVID cases can cause in some people, such as stroke, COPD, kidney failure, blood clots and so on. People can then compare that prospect to the VAERS reports on the shots, and each can then make his own decision based on all the evidence.
Pushing the vax for its own sake will just ensure more resistance. Just my 2 cents.

Ought no sane person expect any “petition” posted up there to be permitted to deviate from “the party line” in any appreciable degree.

Carlson also cites data from an investigation by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which found that VAERS catches a mere 1% of vaccine injuries, primarily because it’s a passive system and reports are filed voluntarily.
Many Americans don’t even know that the system exists, or that they can file a report, and most doctors won’t file reports when injuries are brought to their attention because the medical system doesn’t reward such fastidiousness. At most, 10% of vaccine side effects are ever reported to VAERS, according to a 2005 study in the BMJ.
The VAERS numbers are garbage, like most all the other numbers surrounding this political football.
Smallpox was very deadly - killed 30% IIRC. Covid is nothing in comparison.
The CDC is a vaccine company that formerly was a malaria eradication company.
It’s a federal corporation.
It has absolutely no authority to issue orders to the American people, and Americans are under no compulsion to obey the CDC. The CDC may be able to issue orders to its employees, who then have the right to decide to obey the order or defy it (and resign or be fired).
You may volunteer to obey or abide by its orders, if you want. But if you are an American you can’t BE ordered by the CDC.
I like to call it the “Seedy Sea”...sowing confusion until we drown in disinformation.
