Elon Musk wants to put computer chips in people’s brains and he’s gotten $205 million in funding from companies like Google to make it happen.
It may sound nefarious on the surface, but Musk’s plan is to develop the chip called Neuralink to help people with neurological conditions like Alzheimer’s, dementia and spinal cord injuries, Reuters reported.
Dubai-based venture capital firm Vy Capital and Alphabet Inc.’s Google Ventures contributed to the funding needed to get the startup off the ground.
Neuralink has been seen to work in primates.
In April, the company released a video of a macaque playing a videogame after having the chips implanted in its brain, Reuters reported. It was also tested on pigs, CNBC reported.
Musk then tweeted, saying “First @Neuralink product will enable someone with paralysis to use a smartphone with their mind faster than someone using thumbs.”

That's one of the reasons he has $160 Billion to begin with. It's called using OPM (Other Peeples Money).

If you are a paraplegic or quadriplegic your life could be changed 100%. A chip in your brain and one past the break in the spinal cord and you could move again.
I’m sure anyone confined to a wheelchair or bedridden would opt for a new chance at life.
Yep, here we go! For better or worse.
As soon as a high bandwidth connection is made, the brain can share information in the cloud and access data from other people’s brains. Communication without physical action.
Not to mention the rapid advancements in AI, which will interact with our minds in real time.
Here’s how Kurzweil is thinking about it (1 hour, mind blowing):

Perhaps it will make demonrats less dumberer
True. It still seems freaky melding man and machine though.
The rats get 100% of the vote 100% of the time.
It does and I would not want it personally. UNLESS, I was the one faced with a lifetime of paralysis.
I for one look forward to having a Stepford wife.
My luck would be that my Stepford wife would somehow give birth to Rosemary’s baby.
About those Borg. They simply didn’t have the wit to conquer the human race.
They couldn’t do it force-on-force toe-to-toe with us.
They could easily do it simply by parking a cube in NEO, and advise us that they could offer to treat the terminally ill, the fatally injured, and the extremely aged a way to carry on - pain free.
Enough would go for it in each generation that we would be fully assimilated without firing a shot. Children would aspire to be a Borg when they grew up, to be with g-g-g-grandma and grandpa, fishing trips and milk and cookies forever!
Perhaps quite literally.
Hey Darks! Could this be a candidate for an Undead Thread?
centermass_socrates ~ My luck would be that my Stepford wife would somehow give birth to Rosemary’s baby.
Two words:
Stella Mudd
Yes, technozombies does fall under the interests of the Undead Thread and we do need to wander to new digs come August 1.
Bitt would have to give the go ahead since we tend to ask the thread originator if we can use the thread for the UT metathread.
While I can see how this could help a paralyzed person, at the risk of being called a luddite, I wouldn’t trust the technology not to be abused, either in a mark of the beast scenario, or as a means of surveillance and control. Look how eagerly we embraced computers and cell phones -— both of which, while being marvellous in many ways, are definitely being used against us. Our parents couldn’t figure out how the predictions in Revelation could take place; now it’s pretty easy to see.
Maybe they can stick a chip in Joe Biden’s brain. So he can navigate jet plane stairways, and wipe his own butt. And control the nuclear football.
Rosemary’s cyberbaby!!
They could reboot Ironside yet again.
I have had a lifetime of headaches or maybe mild seizures but I would pass on a chip in the brain.
“Why is Musk raising money when he has $160 Billion?”
Why spend his own money when he can spend someone else’s?
Because spending his own money now means he will double, triple, quadruple that money when his company goes public.
Why do you think all these outfits like Google are investing in it?
