The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on Monday become the first federal agency to require its frontline health care workers to be vaccinated.
President Joe Biden confirmed the move in a brief statement to reporters Monday afternoon.
'Yes. Veteran Affairs is going to in fact require that all docs working in facilities are going to have to be vaccinated,' Biden said, following a report quoting his Veterans Affairs secretary regarding health care workers at the VA.
115,000 staffers will have two months to get inoculated against the coronavirus, and face being fired if they do not oblige.
President Biden confirmed that 'all docs' at the VA would be asked to get the shot ahead of his meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi in the Oval Office.
Denis McDonough, the secretary of veterans affairs, told the New York Times: 'I am doing this because it’s the best way to keep our veterans safe, full stop.
He added that the mandates would apply to the employees who have the most contact with patients.
This includes doctors, dentists, nurses, physicians assistants and physical therapists at VA medical centers across the country.
The Biden administration has so far been unwilling to back federal vaccine mandates, and has insisted it is up to private companies.
The move came after White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the White House 'supports the steps of hospitals' to require staff to get vaccinated, saying it 'could be a guide for us on what to do with our own workforce here from the federal government.'
She noted there are 'certain powers' that the federal government has, and 'certain powers that the federal government does not have.'

When I had surgery at the VA, my surgeon was a volunteer trying to pay off his student loan. I don’t know how would take that, but he was an excellent surgeon among the dmv type permanent staff.
And get tossed. All cases thus far went to the employer.
It’s only a matter of time before my company orders it’s employees to wear the Star of David. Er, I mean show proof of vaccination.
Even though I had covid and had monoclonal antibodies infuses resulting in me being much more safer than those who were simply vaccinated with an EUA.
Yet, I don’t expect that to make any difference to Herr Direktors. Neither will the Nuremburg Code which I plan to bring up.
But when that day comes, I will get an antibodies test first. There should be ways to identify the percentages of my antibodies vs. a person whose only been jabbed with a EUA. Even proving I’m better vaccinated, I still don’t expect that will satisfy the bosses.
An unusual state law barring healthcare workers from being compelled to get the shots is all that’s preventing career mayhem for me.

they are already prosecuting people that forge vax cards. Every person gets put into a database that links you to your vaccine lot, so it is easily verifiable. I expect the enforcement to ramp up soon.

Yeah...because this is sooooooooooooo going to help veterans.
It seems some people just want to sh*t on anything PDJT made better and, in this case, align it with their disdain for the military.
You may be able to make a case for protecting older veterans but color me VERY skeptical.

Maybe, maybe not. "More jabs, less doctors and health care workers" is also likely.
