Oregon County to Vote on Plan to Secede Into Idaho: Organizer
Epoch Times ^ | 07/21/2021 | Jack Phillips

Voters in Oregon’s Harney County will be asked in November to decide on a “Greater Idaho” proposal, potentially allowing the county and several others in Oregon to join the neighboring state, according to a group that has collected signatures in support of the initiative.

Citizens for Greater Idaho’s website said on July 19 that the group has obtained enough signatures.

The group said the proposal would “extend Idaho’s jurisdiction over rural, conservative counties of eastern and southern Oregon” and are also “intended to put pressure on the state legislatures of Oregon and Idaho to negotiate an interstate compact to relocate their common border.”

“Idaho’s government would defend us from the radical Left’s cultural revolution and preserve our way of life—Oregon’s government wouldn’t,” said Mike McCarter, president of Move Oregon’s Border and Citizens for Greater Idaho, in a statement. “We may be able to convince northwestern Oregon to let eastern and southern Oregon counties go.”

Most voters in Oregon live in the northwestern part of the state, which includes heavily Democratic Portland, McCarter said in an interview with television station KTVZ.

“We feel in rural Oregon that we’re somewhat ignored,” he added on July 19, explaining why some residents in Harney County—located in eastern Oregon—may want to join Idaho. With just 7,400 residents, Harney is the state’s most sparsely populated county as well as one of the most sparsely populated counties in the United States.

Voters in seven other Oregon counties, he said, have already voted in favor of their county leaders meeting twice per year to discuss the “Greater Idaho” proposal.

Some experts noted that the concept is a long shot, as it would require the approval of the Democrat-led state legislature as well as the Democrat-controlled U.S. Congress.

The Federal government wouldn’t need a Grant or a Sherman either. The government would just cut off Social Security and Medicare payments to rebellious areas, until they folded.

That would be a huge violation of the US Constitution.

My political preference would be for two new states - Eastern Oregon and Eastern Washington. That would provide four new Senators. Combining parts of Oregon and Washington with Idaho would change the federal picture not at all. The districts in the counties would continue to vote as they are now, so the House would likely not change and Idaho’s mere two Senators would not change the Senate either.

The only way new states will be formed is if, as during the runup before Fort Sumter, one red state is admitted with one blue state. When Missouri applied for admission in 1820, Massachusetts spun off the area that became the state of Maine in order to maintain the North/South balance of power. If Washington, DC or Puerto Rico are admitted as states, so should Eastern Washington or Downstate Illinois. The only way that would occur is if the election process is cleaned up before the 2022 Congressional elections and, as a result, the Republicans capture both Houses of Congress. The leftists who control the legislatures of the blue states have no motivation to release the captive rural areas otherwise.

“Are you daft?”

Nope.

I just disagree with your current secession movement. I want the current union to reform and work through problems.

However, I’m not against your proposals completely. If things don’t change for the better, I’ll be “your” ally within 2-5 years.

Thank Reynolds v. Sims for this crap. Without it, the states Senators could be elected representing counties equally, mitigating the lousy effects that Portland, Eugene and Salem have on the rest of that miserable state.

Having their governor elected on an electoral college county-by-county basis would be good too. They might have avoided electing Governor Bi-Karen.

“You only think in terms of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ not in terms of blood and freedom.”

You’re incorrect.

My ancestors came to this country in the 1670’s:

“They bled, they created freedom, & they made $.”

Another group of my ancestors arrived in the Willamette Valley in the 1840’s:

“They bled less, created freedom, & they made $.

P.S. When you look up Willamette Valley on your computer tonight, know one thing:

“It’s mine”

“You are fukking delusional if you think that is going to happen.”

You are probably right. I’m delusional for wanting to keep our historic geological boundaries intact, without 2 million body bags.

I prefer the “jaw jaw” (diplomacy) to “war war” (many body bags) approach to political solutions.

I’ve always appreciated your defense of American industry & agriculture against the free trade ideological position.

Take care buddy, eventually we’ll be allies.
