Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell drew a heavy red line for Republicans negotiating legislative and budget-related deals with President Biden and the Democrats.
Speaking to Punchbowl News in an interview published Wednesday morning, McConnell (R-Ky.) warned he did not expect members of his party to vote for any bill that includes a hike to the debt ceiling, the limit on how much the federal government can borrow.
“I can’t imagine there will be a single Republican voting to raise the debt ceiling after what we’ve been experiencing,” the nation’s top-ranking elected Republican told the outlet from the Capitol.

I certainly can.
No shortage of ‘em actually.
What a joke! I bet the Turtle even votes to raise the debt ceiling. All we are going to here is gloom and doom until the debt ceiling is raised. No one will talk about cutting spending and massively reducing the size of government. With an exception of a few Republican senators, they are all establishment pieces of schiff. They are for growing government while eliminating your freedoms and making your children pay for it.
More proof of fidiocy. 😵
He’s done it in the past, even going so far as to say that Obama should have been allowed to do it.
I can’t imagine any Kentucky GOP voter voting for Mitch.
But there are.
debt ceiling=running joke
This is so typical of how the GOP works. Spend years raising the debt ceiling with boring regularity when they control one or both houses of Congress, then take a noble stand against it when the Democrats have all the power they need to raise the debt ceiling without a single Republican vote.
More crumbs from McConnell. Just keep voting for us...we’ll fix things if you only put us in power.
Well you geriatric turtle, history proves you as wrong as can be.........
At least until a Republican is in the White House again.
Not sure what year it was but I remember Charles Rangel (D) speaking to media about that debt ceiling issue and how raising it so much higher would have been exactly what Jesus would have done.
Here’s what I can imagine: the GOP wants that debt ceiling raised as much as the dems do. They did it themselves a bunch of times. What they do not want is to be blamed for the economic collapse it will create eventually. So they are basically negotiating over who will get the blame when (not if) it gets raised.
McConnell ‘can’t imagine’ any GOP senator would vote to raise debt ceiling,Yea that's never happened before Mitch.< /sarcasm >
I know turtles lay their eggs in the sand, I didn't know they buried their heads there.
Bit late to get fiscal principles now.
If I had a dollar for every Republican who said that...
Unless they are in power
How Benedict Romney?
What debt ceiling , there’s No ROOF
