San Diegans beg city to curb violence by homeless: 'like you’re in the 'Walking Dead''

San Diegans are asking police and city officials to do more to control random attacks by homeless people in parts of the city.

"Walking through America’s Finest City shouldn’t feel like you’re in ‘The Walking Dead,’" resident Aislinn Fava told NBC San Diego.

Fava hasn’t made it beyond the sidewalk of her apartment building alone since a homeless man attacked her three weeks ago. He reportedly punched her in the back of the head while she ran an errand to pick up a smoothie, and was then hit again as the man attempted to steal her purse.

The suspect, Giovanni Moore, was arrested and is facing battery and robbery charges.

"I used to feel kind of invincible," Fava said. "And I felt really safe in San Diego and never thought anything like this could happen. Ever. And that completely changed on that day."

The incident comes amid an increase in violent attacks in recent weeks, with the mayor saying homelessness has also spiked in the last year.

The San Diego Police Department couldn't immediately provide statistics on how many violent crimes involve homeless people.

"We have an uptick in violent crime in general," said Mayor Todd Gloria, a Democrat. "And being homeless is not a crime, but being homeless is not a get-out-of-jail-free card either.

"A lot of that has to do with the fact that during the pandemic we had to enforce social distancing rules in our homeless shelters," he added. "That meant that literally hundreds of our beds have not been able to be occupied."

Fava and other victims of violent attacks are asking city officials to do more to protect the public.

I recall several decades ago when San Diego was a really nice place. Over the past 20 years, nearly everyone I knew who lived there have left. The only 2 I know still residing in that region are planning on leaving.

Why is drug addiction so widespread? That, I don’t know. Has something to do with modern culture, lower morals over all, break up of the nuclear family, etc. I don’t know for sure.

For a start try China and the cartels in Mexico.

With all the evidence of voter fraud coming out, how on earth can you so flippintly assume the vote totals coming out of any State are true?

>>That would mean Falconer is the answer to the recall question but no freepers seem to care.<<

Faulconer is conservative on most fiscal issues, and liberal on most social issues. He’s a bit to the left of Pete Wilson, former San Diego mayor, California governor, and senator. He led the city through a pension scandal that saw a number of bad guys go to prison, kept the streets and roads in reasonable shape, supported law enforcement, and dealt with the homeless. He’d make a better governor than most who have declared, though he’s soft on the perverts and went along with much of the covid baloney.

I think people are excited about Larry Elder jumping in, but don’t know if he has a chance.

Certainly, at the very least, enough vote for them, to make it easy to get away with cheating.

Larry Elder is the only adult choice in the CA Recall.

I agree, but to have a chance he has got to get some BIG money people behind him and fast.

It was not easy to find on google....

I agree with you that I "have no idea who this woman voted for" although who she voted for is irrelevant to my point.

However, I disagree with you that I am "flippint [sic] in my assumption of the contribution to this problem by the city's elected officials, considering that:
-- the mayor of San Diego is a member of the Democrat/Left Party.
-- eight of the nine seats on the city council are held by members of the Democrat/Left Party.

Considering the California state government is effectively controlled by the Democrat/Left Party, I think it not unreasonable to presume that the results of all state-controlled elections are compromised in favor of the Democrat/Leftist candidate as myriad examples of this have been identified in the 2016, 2018 and 2020 elections.

So although you may disagree with my implied conclusion (what I wrote is not an "assumption"), the political leadership of San Diego is a matter of fact.

How about we hold off on our personal judgment of each other until we see the response by the city government ... how effective they are at addressing the problem. Cheers!

A faceful of 00 buck would cause this nonsense to come to a screeching halt — if done on a regular basis.

See post 18 plus an additional: Addicts have three attempts at rehab to get clean. If they fail them all, they get exiled to one of the little islands off the city state.

A couple of times a month, a barge backs in and unloads fresh food, canned goods and rudimentary building supplies. They collect any bodies (for cremation) and trash which have been properly staged by the dock.

Other than that, you are on your own. There are only two ways to get off the island:

  1. Die and have your corpse collected for cremation.
  2. Get clean and apply for permission to re-enter normal society.

Most druggies select option #1.

When I was a kid the cops would pick up bums, drive them to the edge of town and beat their ass.

There is one suburb of L.A. that is still doing some of that. There was a news story about 6 months ago about it. The town borders L.A. and basically moves the bums across the city line. Their streets are bum free and across the street the tents/shelters cover the sidewalks. The gist of the story was that the suburb (I forget the name) was being heatless and causing problems for L.A. by moving them along.
