Congress is looking to change the way Social Security benefit payments are calculated because the coming cost of living adjustment (COLA) will be the highest in decades.
Experts see at least a 6.1 percent increase in benefits starting January 1, 2022. But even that increase may fall far short of the actual increase in cost seniors pay for things like healthcare and food. So Congress is examing a change in how Social Security benefits are calculated that would better reflect what senior citizens are paying for goods and services.

Hahahahahahaha!
Don’t spend that money yet.
Hedonic adjustments - who wants steak when they can substitute cat food?
Nah, just some of gates’ 3d printed steaks made from soy or tofu. Hey, we won’t be able to tell..............
What this does is make people believe that the dims are helping the S.S. folks. They are the party who “cares”. It will never overcome the inflation. With the dims it’s always inflation that never goes back down. So money loses it’s value in a never ending spiral.
Where local governments will raise taxes and wipe it out.
Come on! I got plenty of time to shop for the best deal(food). The Dollar store is next to the Walmart. Safeway is my last stop on $5 Fridays. Covid gave me the incentive to try new recipes and share them with others on SSI. Life’s good. I’ll take the 6% and cut back on something else like shopping.
But the dumbasses still vote for the dumbasses. It’s FREE!!!!!

In other words, the new calculations will be based upon staples needed by seniors, like coal tar and raw sulphur. I knew that this was coming, see previous posts.
6% increase for 15% inflation. Thanks a bunch.
In other words, “let them eat cake.”
How much of an increase did the political hacks in Congress just give themselves this year?
Every social security increase in the past few years was coupled with an increase in Medicare costs. Bend over and grab your ankles.
Congress is looking to change the way Social Security benefit payments are calculated because the coming cost of living adjustment (COLA) will be the highest in decades and will bankrupt the government. Having got rid of those old folks with the covid, eliminating all those useless eaters and their social security payouts, now is a perfect time to starve the rest.
Considering inflation has risen something like 15% in the last year, this is peanuts.
Or, rather, bread crumbs; which we’re supposed to be happy for.
Every year when there is a COLA raise to social security there is also a raise in the medicare premium that is automatically deducted from the monthly SS check. The net increase to the SS recipient does not amount to much in the long run.
I just ran a best case scenario in which inflation is transitory like they promise.
Assume we get out of this jam by reversing the inflation numbers by month starting now.
December inflation? 7.2%
Best Case.
Your SSA may go up, a little. And your savings will be worth a lot less. Hardly seems fair.
Ten years to go for me and I’m spending that ten years doing things that will allow us to live cheap. No IRA or 401k. Pay property off and rural taxes are only $22/yr. Build passive solar earth bermed house on southern slope facing S/SE. Already got meat goats and will be getting a small bred of pig. Veggie garden is there. Fruit trees and shiitake mushrooms next year. Hope to sell a little at some point. Autistic son will likely be here forever to take over the labor part and be able to take care of himself when we’re gone. His sister may or may not stick around. There is room for a second house. Never been to a doctor for anything but injuries. Been eating better. Peach, banana and a piece of skinless chicken so far today.
Savings? 💸💸💸
They’ll take out so much for that blasted income related adjustment i’ll end up with less than what I get this year. Socialism.
