Oakland, California – A thief smashed a car window, climbed into the vehicle and robbed a female driver who was stuck in traffic in broad daylight.
The robbery took place on July 7 after the woman had just left a nearby bank.

I always step on the gas when I pass the “Fruitvale” exit on the 880. I consider the entire city of Oakland “no-go.”
In that area, even if the perp is caught, he’ll be let go and all charges dropped.

After my 3-hour late morning visit to Oakland last week on business there’s no way I’m ever going back there without my little S&W .38 special ... no way. It was that bad ... that, well, “unnerving” ... and this is not an exaggeration.

When I lived in LA and would be stuck on the freeway, or a side stree in traffic, I feared a crazy person would just get out of his car and start shooting in car windows. You can’t escape, so you’re a dead target, unless you’re carrying.

I owned a local delivery/installation company in Fremont back in 1979-1984. We did business in Oakland 2 times a week.
In the early Spring of 1979, (school was in session), the first time one of my drivers went into Oakland he forgot the basic training we provided about securing your unit when in Oakland no matter what you are doing. In a span of seconds, thing could change and did…always.
My employee double parked, open the back of the cube van, removed the parcel and was walking to the door with the package not 25 feet away when my vehicle was swarmed by a group of thugs aged that appeared to be 8 to 21 years old started throwing parcels out the back door into the street.
My driver was able to get into the truck unmolested and took off spilling juvenile thugs out the back of the truck for several blocks until it was safe and he could stop, secure his unit and call the police. That was the last time I took any business that sent us into Oakland.
