WASHINGTON, July 12 (Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Monday appeared likely to reprimand Sidney Powell, a former campaign lawyer for Donald Trump, and other attorneys over a lawsuit they filed in Michigan seeking to overturn Democratic President Joe Biden's election victory.
U.S. District Judge Linda Parker in Detroit suggested the pro-Trump lawyers should have investigated the Republican former president's voter fraud claims more carefully before suing.
"Should an attorney be sanctioned for his or her failure to withdraw allegations the attorney came to know were untrue?," Parker said during a court hearing via video conference. "Is that sanctionable behavior?"
She said she thought affidavits in the case had been submitted in "bad faith."
Parker held the hearing to determine whether Powell, Lin Wood and other pro-Trump lawyers should be disciplined for a lawsuit they filed last November that made baseless claims of widespread voter fraud in the U.S. presidential election in Michigan.
They are not the only lawyers allied with Trump to land in hot water for supporting his false claims that his election defeat was the result of fraud. New York state and Washington, D.C., in recent weeks suspended former New York City Mayor and Trump confidant Rudy Giuliani's law license after finding he lied in supporting Trump's claims.
Parker dismissed the Michigan lawsuit last December, saying in a written decision that Powell's voter fraud claims were "nothing but speculation and conjecture" and that, in any event, the Texas lawyer waited too long to file her lawsuit.

The vote of the Senate was 60-37 in favor of the nomination. The following Republicans supported the nomination: Chambliss, Coats, Collins, Corker, Grassley, Hatch, Kirk. Rubio did not vote.
Local news media (Metro Detroit) refer to Trump’s “false claims”. The claims are all real and they are very seriously real. They are not false claims and there are lawyers on the case to make those claims in what are supposed to be real courts of real law(s).
Wrong! Sydney Powell was not Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani was. Sydney was working independently. They could have at least “fact checked” their first sentence.

Powell was not the person to do this job for us.

Some us here recognized that rudy..powell..and l lin wood were so bad that some wondered if they were double agents.

Do you have any idea how many lawsuits get dismissed, etc every day? Attacking the lawyers is extreme. Especially lawyers in cases seeking vote integrity.

We, on the Right, should remember all this crap, and when the results of the audits are made public, we should go after the deniers with pitchforks, tar and feathers, and legal retribution. Give no quarter and give them a lesson that they and their adoring supporters will not forget.
This will never happen. Lawyers get sanctioned 0.0000001 % of motions to sanction filed.
It’s a standing joke! I’ve tried it many times against lying lawyers and NEVER won a nickel.
My lawyer won’t even file for sanctions no matter what. If this little commie judge they’re talking about rules for sanctions. It will be overturned........in my opinion.

Interesting point. It seemed at the time the Trump team flatly stated that Sydney did not work for them and her work was independent. They did not say “she does not represent President Trump anymore.”
If she had been retained by Trump at some point it was truly hush hush.
Now Lin Wood made people suspicious when he told the people of Georgia not to vote for their Republican senators.
