NAACP Denounces Utah Black Lives Matter Stance Over American Flag

The president of the Utah NAACP chapter became the latest to denounce the controversial stance taken by Black Lives Matter Utah that the American flag is a "symbol of hatred" and anyone who flies it is a racist.

"The NAACP does not agree with that statement and rejects the idea that flying the American flag is a racist message," Jeanetta Williams, president of the NAACP Utah State Conference, said in a prepared statement released late Saturday. "The flag stands for all the people who have lived and served to bring about the best of the American experience, that all people are created equal. Real American patriots have stood for equality and justice for all."

Lex Scott, founder of the Utah chapter of Black Lives Matter, responded shortly afterward.

"The NAACP has done a lot of good work in the past. They do not like me, they do not like us. What they did today was hurtful. They have every right to their opinion. They have not had to be at protests with white supremacists weaponizing the flag against them. They have more white validation than we do. We do not play respectability politics here," Scott posted on Facebook.

Yet Scott also praised Williams and the NAACP and said she won't tolerate "white organizations" and the media "pitting Black organizations against each other."

Black Lives Matter Utah sparked national controversy on the Fourth of July when Scott posted the comments about the American flag.

"When we Black Americans see this flag we know the person flying it is not safe to be around," the Facebook post says, "When we see this flag we know that the person flying it lives in a different America than we do."

The post prompted backlash from the Utah Republican Party and Utah Gov. Spencer Cox

If you were offended I am finally American flag, and I really don’t want to be around you. The feeling is mutual..

And this is how they are going to dilute the perceived dangerous radicalism of BLM. They are going to create a synthetic division across the blackosphere. The NAACP is going to pretend that they are not on board with the radicalism and the perception will be that there is a schism between BLM the NAACP. The result will be that BLM will be perceived as less dangerous, and the NAACP will appear to be more righteous. It’s actually a brilliant strategy. But it is completely fake.

The corporations that gave BILLIONS to BLM last year need yo issue a statement of support or rejection of BLM’s un-American hatred of the flag and this country.

I am sincerely intrigued by your hypothesis! I realize that it can't be definitively proven, but it is interesting nonetheless.

If these blactivists understood how many patriots view the government with suspicion (or downright hatred) today they’d understand they are attacking a symbol of leftist America.

Fly a Revolutionary War flag; less baggage.

The first part of your statement is true: pay the NAACP, and pay Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. That is how the race industry works. They now have unlimited funds to do so.

The worst people from NY and CA wouldn’t dream of settling in places that don’t have the artsy crap they prefer; they need bragging rights with their snooty friends, and TN won’t cut it. TN would be proud to get people from the rural parts of NY or CA; truly deplorable!

Deplorable is great thanks to Hillary re-defining it. I’m not insulting north New York state people and most northern Californians are cool (that state really needs division). It’s the corrupt cultures inhabiting the bottom of those considering themselves so great the rest of us are “fly-over country”, mere peasants made to labor to provide their enrichment. Wealthy dimbulbs thinking Communism is the answer not realizing they’re first to be disenfranchised and falling into a deep pit dead. “Oh, we’ll do it right this time!” Are you still less than perfect beings? Then no.
