Arkansas is seeing its highest spike in coronavirus cases in nearly five months.
The spread of the Delta variant has made it a new epicenter of the US outbreak.
But Arkansas health officials are still struggling to convince people to get vaccinated.
Few states have had a harder time vaccinating people than Arkansas.
Less than 43% of the state's population has received at least one vaccine dose, and just 34% of residents are fully vaccinated - among the lowest vaccination rates in the US. That made the state a sitting duck for the Delta variant, which is significantly more transmissible than the original virus or other variants. As Delta spreads rapidly among unvaccinated people in the US, Arkansas and its neighbor, Missouri, have become the epicenter of the US outbreak.
The maps below, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, show how Arkansas' latest surge correlates with its low vaccination rate. Counties with at least 100 cases per 100,000 people (in blue) also have vaccination rates below 40% (in purple).
US Maps show counties where case rate is over 100 per 100.000, and counties where vaccination rate is below 40%, as of July 2, 2021 CDC
Arkansas reported more than 1,200 new coronavirus cases on Friday - its highest tally in nearly five months. The state's daily coronavirus cases more than doubled over the last two weeks, from around 290 to 600 cases per day, on average. Data compiled by Scripps Research's Outbreak.info tracker suggests that Delta may account for more than 80% of Arkansas' new coronavirus infections. That's among the highest shares of Delta infections in the country.
Hospitalizations have risen in the state as a result: Arkansas' average is up 42% in the last two weeks, from around 270 to 380 hospitalizations per day.

RE: There is no “variant.”
A one liner isn’t very helpful at all. Can you please explain?
Check the ‘Delta variant’ with the symptoms of hay fever. I wonder how many times they are cycling the blood for the COVID tests now in the states and cities that are having ‘outbreaks’. We are convinced that the authorities want to keep us in fear and ‘play on our fears’.
The Lambda virus variant is worrying scientists after taking over in Peru. https://www.businessinsider.com/lambda-variant-emerges-experts-fear-could-spread-fast-resist-vaccine-2021-7
Lambda carries an unusual combination of mutations with the potential to change its ability to transmit or resist vaccination, the WHO has said.
“It has rather an unusual set of mutations, compared with other variants,” said Jeff Barrett, director of the Covid-19 Genomics Initiative at the Wellcome Sanger Institute in the UK, the Financial Times reported.
Read that Israel reported 1 Covid death in June.
Delta is pretty benign.
Heard a doc say it’s way safer for kids than the jab. I agree.
I like this man’s attitude. “We’ve done everything we can do.”
Romero doesn’t plan on sending out “shock troops” out to go door to door...
Also in the article...people believe “falsely” that the vaccine causes infertility.
That is not false.
Can we please have some objective journalism?
lotsa casres, fear hysteria
How many deaths from just covid, NOT old age, motorcycle accidents, etc
ALM
Anti-vaxxed Lives Matter

Defund the CDC
In the last month, in Arkansas, deaths per day increased from 2 to 3.

Check out their damn dashboard.
Bet they count probables and repeat positives of the same patient as new cases. NYS does.
Deaths?
Show us the medical records and death certificates.
States elections aren’t the only thing in dire need of an audit.
There was a spike in Arkansas in the winter.
The population is 3 million for the entire state. So far around a million have been fully vaccinated.

Agreed.
We’re watching the narrative shift from deaths to cases.
I’m an old guy not afraid of getting sick. But when a lot of people start dying it gets my attention. I use deaths for the metric.
The odds of someone under 50 dying of COVID are very low, certainly not high enough for all this fear mongering or to shut down the economy.
Funny how we see this massive supposed breakout in a red state, yet there is still not 1 reported outbreak or single instance of COVID reported in any of the thousands of homeless camps in the blues states.
and on the bright side, those who do come down with covid have a 99.85% chance of survival. Thereafter they carry the anti-bodies and don’t need the jab.
Looks like Little Rock and Bentonville so I say it’s Walmart’s and the Clinton’s fault.
We’re doing fine here in East Ctrl MO. St Louis has supposedly has thousands of deaths “attributed to covid”. I’m 80 miles S/SE of there and we have thousands of people come here from there every weekend(they like being mask free) for recreation, yet we’ve had 40 deaths “attributed to covid” in 1 1/2 years. Somethin’ don’t jive.
For many months, covid was geographically trapped in St Louis County, all while thousands of people from there came here every weekend to hang out with us maskless heathens and empty our meat dept shelves but somehow never brought covid here. I knew then that this whole thing was being over-hyped and that hospitals and coroners in blue cities were pumping up the death count and calling everything covid.
Same thing with this ‘delta’ variant. OMG, it’s delta, give your babies the jab or we’re all gonna die. Same people said for three years, Trump’s a Russian asset and that the election was on the up and up.
This is all propaganda. Do not believe ANY numbers you hear. If a state has a low “vaccination” rate, they will be a propaganda target.
RE: and on the bright side, those who do come down with covid have a 99.85% chance of survival
The survival numbers being posted are all over the place. In this thread alone, I’m seeing numbers like 99.85%, 99.7%, etc.
The difference of a few places after the decimal points number between a few thousands to tens of thousands of deaths.
What is the lethality of this Delta strain compared to the original? The same, stronger or weaker?
Cause the good folks of Arkansas do not trust the federal gub mint any damned thing.
““Vaccine Hesitancy””
Good one!
Just thought of this: “Hypodermically Challenged!”
