July 6 (UPI) -- The death toll has risen again at the site of a collapsed condo building near Miami, officials said Tuesday as crews work through the debris with Tropical Storm Elsa nearby.
During a news conference Tuesday, officials said crews found four more victims -- raising the total to 32 people dead since the collapse on June 24 at Champlain Towers South in Surfside, about 3 miles north of Miami Beach.
More than 100 people are still unaccounted for, they said.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava told reporters that 26 of the victims have been positively identified. She also said 70 of the missing were definitely inside the building when it collapsed.
"Detectives are conducting ongoing and very thorough reviews of these names and reports," Cava said at the news conference. "Many were originally submitted incomplete. So, we may have a name without an apartment number or date of birth or other details."
Cava encouraged family members to come forward with any information about those who are still missing.
Officials also expressed some concern about Tropical Storm Elsa, which passed by the Florida Keys on Tuesday morning. Crews were forced to stop the search briefly after midnight Monday due to lightning, they said.
Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett said strong winds from the storm has slowed the work of large cranes that are removing heavy debris.
Officials said 124 tons have so far been moved at the site and some 5 million pounds of concrete have been hauled away.
Burkett said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis asked him to help manage donation efforts to relatives to "make sure no one falls through the cracks."
A controlled demolition on Sunday night brought down the rest of the Champlain Towers South building due to fears that Elsa might cause the rest of it to collapse.
Cava said the Royal Caribbean cruise line has brought in a ship where first responders working at the site can rest in between shifts.

All this focus in the hopes of tying DeSantis into a smear. How much media attention is given to the carnage in Chicago?
Thank goodness there are people willing and able to do this work.
Your best bet would be if you and your spouse had a unit and were not there. Then you could say one of you was there and try to collect the life insurance, SS, etc., would be very hard to do in this day and age though on a permanent basis to keep it hidden.

When it will hurt Gov. DeSantis the most. Bet on it.
Not really, there is a plethora of countries you could go to fairly easy. Cross the border going south, get into Belize, fly using a chartered jet into Sierra Leone, wait the time limit out.
Get a citizenship there in Sierra Leone with an assumed name, be on the right side of the law, come back into the USA with the new passport as a tourist and live with the spouse.

One problem...that’s not easy. LOL.
I think it would be easy, very time consuming, but fairly easy. The hard part would be driving through Mexico and Central America. Once past that, everything else falls into place.
The spouse might be able to charter a jet in the USA which could fly without all the security issues. Sierra Leone don’t care at all as long as you pay the “fine”.

This “death toll” is so silly. All they are doing is subtracting from the “missing” and adding to the “dead.”

Some people were removed from the list over the weekend. Some were duplicated names and some were people who later showed up, and were safe.....................
