A prominent statue of Queen Victoria has been torn down by protesters in Canada as anger grows over the deaths of indigenous children at residential schools.

The protesters cheered as the statue at the legislature in Manitoba's capital Winnipeg was toppled on Thursday.

A smaller statue of Queen Elizabeth II was also upended nearby.

Local media say police used a stun gun to arrest a man at the scene but the protest was largely peaceful.

The toppling of the statues came on Canada Day, an annual celebration on 1 July that marks the country's founding by British colonies in 1867.

Kick a communist in the nuts.

Or - send them all to Cuba or Venezuela or North Korea where they can be equitable.

The destruction of public property is now “mostly peaceful” in Canada. Just like here.

People wrecking stuff because of what others did, to other people, 150 years ago. oK.

I always wonder if some of these people protesting understand this is history, not the news.

They are also burning Catholic churches, with the implicit approval of the government who doesn't stop them.

It had to happen...if Abraham Lincoln’s statue can be torn down it stands to reason that Queen Victoria’s can as well.

How about sending the communists back in time to Chile in 1974 for some “free helicopter rides”.

Happened to come across a reference to the vandals and barbarians who destroyed huge numbers of beautiful artistic statues in Greece and elsewhere hundreds of years ago.

That ongoing filthy contingent of the human race has not progressed very far.

When I read of such happenings (i.e., of "Woke" SJWs, Antifas, etc. destroying statues), my primary thought is: They understand that they represent an extreme position, and that they will never succeed in persuading the Main Stream, so they resort to vandalism as a form of a fait accompli.

Would a democratic society ever have chosen freely to tear down such statutes? Probably not. But: Will the torn-down statues ever be restored? Probably not.

Regards,

Nope. They’re all animals who simply like to destroy things others hold dear. That’s what they do. Like a monster father who kills a child’s pet simply because the child loves the pet, and the father’s a monster.

The same forces operating in the USA are operating in Canada also. Just as there’s a hate-America crowd, there’s a hate-Canada bunch. They want to tear down both countries and replace them with membership in a One World Government that forces communism on all.

To be fair to Obama, he was a nothing Illinois state senator when the Taliban destroyed the statues.

But I have to wonder if we’ll live to see the Confederate carvings at Stone Mountain or Mt Rushmore blown up by our version of the Taliban.

Yes they want to destroy our history and great men like MacDonald and Laurier. They weren’t perfect. So what.

To be fair...he’s a Muslim and the lowly, clean Senator likely smiled at the events.

Highly doubt Victoria or Liz did anything to the children.

It is disgusting and what should be corrected is Canadian police ignore missing and killed indigenous women today.

Why were indigenous sent to schools?

Reason 1: Christianity was the key that opened the door for primitive people to join the advanced civilization that had swept away a primitive world by the 1880s. Education was the pathway to creating a sense of belonging to this larger world. Boarding schools meant freedom from the abject poverty, enslavement of females resulting from petty wars amongst tribes, horrific treatment and animalistic ways to torture and murder captives, and the seasonal starvation that all tribes experienced while living in ‘utopia’.

Reason 2: By ‘holding’ the children, tribes were coerced into nonviolence. It was a last resort to putting an end to the 400 years of usually senseless, sometimes drug-induced and always unrelenting attacks on innocent folks going about their business transforming Canada to a world power.

“While there were residential schools in Canada as early as the 17th century in New France, the residential school system did not really develop until after the passage of the Indian Act in 1876, which gave the federal government the right and responsibility of educating (and assimilating) Indigenous people in Canada. Beginning in the 1880s, the government cooperated with Roman Catholic and Protestant churches to establish a system of residential schools across Canada. In 1894, the Indian Act was amended, making attendance at residential schools compulsory. “

Approx 150K indian children attended the schools. Over 3 Billion was disbursed to them:

“Under the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement, $1.9 billion was set aside for all former residents of the schools. Every former student would receive $10,000 for the first year of schooling, and $3,000 for each subsequent year. According to Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), 98 per cent of the estimated 80,000 eligible former students had received payment by the end of December 2012, with over $1.6 billion approved for payment.”

“In addition to the Common Experience Payment, funds were allocated for the Independent Assessment Process (IAP), an out-of-court process for resolving claims of sexual abuse and serious physical and psychological abuse. As of 31 December 2012, over $1.7 billion had been issued through the IAP. “

Which just proves, even if a nation pays reparations, race baiters will still chew on the bone.
