New claims for unemployment benefits fell sharply last week, the Department of Labor said Thursday.
Initial jobless claims declined to 364,000 for the week ended June 26, a decline of 51,000 from the previous week. Economists polled by Econoday had estimated 395,000 new claims.
This is the lowest level of claims since March 14, 2020, just before pandemic lockdowns forced millions of Americans out of work. The 4-week moving average of claims, which smoothes out week-to-week volatility, was 392,750, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week’s revised average. This is the lowest level for this average since March 14, 2020 when it was 225,500.
Continuing claims rose to 3,469,000, an increase of 56,000 from the previous week’s revised level. These figures are reported with a one-week delay. The total number of continued weeks claimed for benefits in all programs for the week ending June 12 was 14,659,791, a decrease of 180,890 from the previous week

Thanks to Republican governors rejecting fed money to pay people to sit home instead of getting a job.
RAT infested states will continue to pay the unemployed with our tax dollars.
Good.
Now STOP the $1.7 Trillion “infrastructure” abomination!
We’re back to the low labor participation rate equals low unemployment numbers shell game.
So, the economists lower expectations after last month’s jobs report was a disaster, then when we meet these lowered expectations, everyone cheers. Double-plus-good!
Everywhere I go, businesses can’t find workers. A couple restaurants I like have reduced to 5 days, because that’s all they can support with their staff. People would rather sit at home, play video games and smoke weed on unemployment.
It’s Summer
Problem is how many of those desperate restaurant owners will hire illegals to cook your food all the while infecting into the dishes whatever diseases they have brought over with them when they invaded our soil. They are too numerous for the health department to go around and check health cards.
Up the salary, people will work.
Unfortunately they’ll all be taking a big pay cut, then throw in all this inflation, rising prices....Wait till they start commuting and find they’re paying nearly double just for that.
I know a restaurant owner.. She said after the shutdown, half her workers took jobs in construction where they get paid under the table, while collecting unemployment at the same time. She’s hoping they will come back once the unemployment ends.
