Top Travel Aides for Kamala Harris Are Quitting, and Their Departure Could Hardly Come at a Worse Time

As Julio and Katie have covered, Vice President Kamala Harris' trip to the southern border  has certainly had its fair share of pitfalls. The administration must not only deal with that, but the news that two of the vice president's travel officials are quitting, as Annie Karni and Katie Rogers reported for The New York Times.

The news came out on June 24, the day before Harris' highly anticipated trip. Not only was she criticized for how long it took--almost 100 days after Biden put her in charge of stemming the surge of migrants--but because she went to El Paso, many miles from hotspots like Del Rio. She briefly left the airport to visit a Border Patrol station

Calling Kamala’s visit to El Paso a visit to the Southern Border is the equivalent of going to Olive Garden and saying you’ve been to Italy.— Lauren Boebert (@laurenboebert) June 25, 2021

It's not merely this trip where the timing matters, though. Karni and Rogers did not mince words there. They began their piece by noting the officials, Karly Satkowiak, the director of advance, and Gabrielle DeFranceschi, are "leaving the vice president with her critical support staff in flux as she seeks to ramp up travel ahead of big vaccine and voting rights pushes she is planning through July."

The vice president was photographed wearing a mask while meeting with Border Patrol agents, despite having been fully vaccinated, months ago. If she wants to encourage those who are hesitant to get vaccinated that it's worthwhile, the vice president may want to rethink wearing a mask.

Naturally, the White House is spinning the news. "A spokeswoman for Ms. Harris said the departures were long planned and that both women are currently engaged with finding their replacements," Karni and Rogers wrote. "Many of those officials came in with an understanding that they would stay only on a short-term basis," the report also read in closing.

During Harris' trip to Mexico earlier this month, someone dropped the ball and allowed an imposter to what one would think is a highly secure event, considering it's the vice president. The position doesn't sound all that worthwhile for the stress of that security breach alone. That imposter was able to ask Harris a question, as well as gush about how she voted for her.

Satkowiak and DeFranchesi were the ones who "put together the teams that survey venues for Ms. Harris to visit, and negotiate with local officials to get the venues camera-ready."

Those who have served in this capacity are being asked to "consider doing so again."

The position isn't even a paid one. Travel expenses for the officials are paid for or reimbursed by the government.

There's already a call out for "advance associates" to join the trip. "The vice president’s office, according to a person familiar with its hiring, is currently short on travel support staff, and the call for advance associates came as the administration has also been planning Ms. Harris’s high-stakes trip to the southern border," according to Karni and Rogers.

The administration sounds desperate.

From what I have read El Paso is hundreds of miles distant from the Illegal Insurgent hotspots.

That’s what the picture in Post #2 above is trying to express.

“That’s what the picture in Post #2 above is trying to express.” Understood. But, a wild pitch just doesn’t quite do it in expressing the fact that she went to an area many hundreds of miles away from the problem. So, I thought I’d point out that fact.

Kamala was heading to LA. She decided to make a quick stop in El Paso to check the box that she had been to the border. She didn’t even leave the airport. A short stop along the way on her trip to LALA land.

I think you’re probably the only one that thinks the wild pitch photo expression doesn’t capture the irony.

One can only imagine the attitude and ego that the travel people have to deal with.

She was one of the most hated, if not, the most hated people in Congress. Now she’s the VP, actually thinks she should be President, probably does a lot of work since CornPop is beyond help, so she thinks that she should be treated like royalty.

And she strikes me as being one nasty human being.

Amazingly, one has to appreciate how the Dems handle this. They don’t let on about anything. If this were President Trump’s administration, the press would be making it out like they were beating each other with bats and chairs.

This was posted by one of the quitters, Gabrielle DeFranceschi

Flipping through this year’s Halloween magazines, I realized I might actually cry tears of joy if I saw a little boy pictured in a princess costume, or a little girl dressed as Superman. It is 2014, after all, and we have come a long way in the past few years. States have outlawed numerous forms of discrimination against LGBTQI people. Globally, conversations have shifted to encourage girls to become involved in traditionally male-dominated STEM fields.

Apparently we have further to go. Having no such luck in magazines, I turned to an Internet search for “Halloween stores,” hopeful that Halloween websites may practice a bit more gender neutrality in their ads. Not quite.

...

Of the top Halloween stores to appear in the search, each site’s kids section is split into categories for boys and girls.

I was a girl who loved pink sparkly princess pop-star costumes, and I am sure there are many girls who still do love those options. I am also sure there are just as many girls who would like to dress as a police officer, and wear the kind of uniform real-life female police officers wear. You know, the ones with pants. Similarly, I know some boys would be thrilled to dress as a pop star, or as their favorite princess.

Sure, the argument may be that “those” girls and boys could buy from the boys’ police officer or girls’ princess sections. Okay. Or we could get with the times and not categorize costumes based on a strict gender binary.

Why are there girls’ and boys’ sections? If the same sub-categories are offered on the “girls” and “boys” pages, why not simply split the site into Featured, Horror, Time Period, etc? And within those categories, maybe we can depict boys and girls in all kinds of costumes so the innocent, imaginative, and malleable minds of children have free range to dress up as whomever they please.

As we grow up, we constantly receive the message that we can become anything we dream. Eventually, life serves up the harsh reality that this may not actually be the case. On the one day of the year children are allowed to dress up as anting they wish, the least we can do is get rid of any subliminal messaging that tells kids otherwise. Even if only on Halloween, children deserve the opportunity to be anything they want. Who knows, maybe it will stick. Maybe the costumes that portray the dreams of those three-year-olds will actually become their realities.

Indentured servitude? Human Trafficking? A GVHR?

What happened to at least Minimum Wage?

Is their charitable work claimed on her IRS returns?

It’s like not claiming her maid expenses on her return.

Lauren Boebert has the best line of all in describing Kamala Harris’ border trip in Texas, re calling going to Olive Garden the same thing as going to Italy. (Interestingly, at our local Olive Garden, where the food is great, there are no Italians that I can see among the employees, just like there are minimal illegal aliens present border crossers in the El Paso area as compared to other areas).

I don’t know why Harris won’t go to the requested border areas to see what is really going on since she spent much of her rising political career travelling with her mattress to Sacramento and Little Willie’s house.

She sounds crazy. Kids dressing up for halloween is not the same as being a sexual deviant. Just damn.
