Joseph Bolanos was a pillar of his community. President of his Upper West Side block association for the past 23 years, he looked out for his neighbors during the pandemic. He dropped off masks and kept extra heaters in his rent-controlled apartment for seniors. He raised morale with a weekly street dance to show his support for essential workers.
A Red Cross volunteer after the 9/11 attacks, the 69-year-old security consultant once received a police commendation for heroism after saving a woman from being mugged.
Unmarried, and caring for his 94-year-old mother, he was a well-loved character in the quiet residential area.
But now his neighbors think he is a domestic terrorist.
Yes, he attended then-President Donald Trump’s rally in Washington, DC, on Jan. 6, but he never entered the Capitol. He was in a friend’s room at the JW Marriott a 30-minute walk away when the Capitol breach occurred.
Nonetheless, he was raided in February by the FBI anti-terrorism task force, handcuffed, paraded and detained for three hours while his apartment was ransacked and all his devices confiscated. Four months later, he hasn’t been charged and doesn’t have his devices back, but his neighbors are shunning him, and he’s had two strokes from the stress.
“It’s destroyed my reputation,” he says. “I’m not a violent invader . . . I do not condone the criminality and violence on [Jan. 6] whatsoever.”
The FBI told Bolanos he was raided because of a tip to the Jan. 6 hotline from a neighbor who said he had overheard him “boasting” about being at the Capitol.
An FBI agent phoned Bolanos the Sunday after the riot and left a message. He returned the call the next day, but never heard back.

Never let a good deed go unpunished.
American Stasi in action. Scumbags…
Forget about tumbling a neighbor down the stairs. If he lives in an apartment building he should just have his own little “fall” and find himself a good personal injury lawyer.

Eff the neighbors. They're the problem.
This sounds awfully like something that would be done by Hunter’s paymaster, mention of whose name would be racis, you know the guys who cracked down on the then free citizens of that little trading colony on the coast of that great big country mention of which would be racis, you know, the guys not responsible for creating the Trump flu.
Just-Us means never-you.
The cowardly GOP elected Senators and Congressmen should be shouting from the rooftops about the political prisoners Biden has locked up. Where is Sekulow? Where is anyone in the conservative legal sphere?
Does anyone here still believe we are going to vote our way out of this?
Anyone?
Anyone?

Interesting. I guess a “tip” is all that’s needed these days to get your house raided. The FBI probably had a search warrant. So a judge is also complicit in this travesty.
The country is lost. Its most powerful law-enforcement arm, the fbi, has been turned into an instrument of persecution. Under the direction of the unseen moles who are pulling biden’s strings, our government has taken the cell phone records of all who were in the area, tracked them down, and thrown them in jail.
The same fbi would do nothing if there were a ring of muslim terrorists roaming the country bombing elementary schools.
I lived on the Upper West Side for years…in fact, I grew up there. There are some conservatives, but notice that even in the article, it mentions that this man is “discreet” about it. In other words, you have to keep it quiet if you want to get along with your neighbors (such as the one who “turned him in”).
And as happens over time, people like Joseph will get get fed up and vote with their feet... well, in fact it’s already happening as far more people are moving from liberal hellholes than moving in the other direction.
The kids on the street know that “snitches get stitches”.
Let’s face it, the fbi has always operated on the edge on unconstitutional behavior. J Edger liked to be in that place, above reproach by us commoners. Now they are public enemy number one.
".... and end up in ditches."
What clown judge signed off on the warrant? Can we see a copy of it, where the FBI agent brags how great they are and what brilliant detective work they did?
Just like in most Marxist sh*tholes.
