A Texas fast-food chain is shelling out $50,000 salaries for teenagers and those in their early 20s to manage its restaurants as executives struggle to find qualified workers amid a nationwide labor shortage.

Garrett Reed, CEO of Layne’s Chicken Fingers, said a downturn in the labor market stymied his company's growth and forced him to dish out large salaries for workers who would make about $12 hourly in entry-level roles after promoting them to managerial positions.

“The biggest challenge for small companies to grow right now is your labor force,” he said. “We’d be growing at twice the rate if we had more people.”A Texas fast-food chain is shelling out $50,000 salaries for teenagers and those in their early 20s to manage its restaurants as executives struggle to find qualified workers amid a nationwide labor shortage.

He continued: “We’re so thin at leadership that we can’t stretch anymore to open more locations. I’ve got a good crop of 16 and 17-year-olds, but I need another year or two to get them seasoned to run stores.”

Job openings soared to a record high at the end of April, the Labor Department revealed on June 8, inflating fears around the nationwide drop in workers. The number of available jobs rose by about 1 million to 9.3 million, the highest number since the agency began tabulations in 2000.

I know some, not many, smart 20 year olds who could easily manage an entire fast food restaurant after a short couple months of training.

Management is a viable career track for those who can accept responsibility and accountability.

I went into management at an early age and have made a six figure salary for the past 20 years. My 401K is well into 7 figures.

I never had a college degree but I was willing to step up. Not many do. They want to go home at the end of their shift and binge-watch some television show.

Sorry, government has driven up the cost of labor even at the low end.

Wolfgang Puck in LA is offering $120k per year for waiters.

That’s almost what a garbage collector makes in New York.

Where the hell was this labor shortage when I was in high school? I had to pound the pavement for a $4.50 minimum wage job scraping mold off of rotten food in a warehouse.

This is not so new. In 1972, at the age of 17, I was a lowest-level manager at a McDonald’s. They weren’t paying me any $50K a year, though, I can tell you. $2.05/hr, if I remember.

The head manager was 21, and one of the two assistant managers was 19. The other was an old codger, at least 23 or 24.

After 3 years working, around 1976, I was a dishwasher/busboy at a popular truck stop. The manager told me that I was going to be an assistant manager. I resisted for a couple of weeks. It came to head when he asked me why I didn’t show up one day in manager’s attire. I told him, no way. I got fired. You couldn’t pay me enough to do that job. BTW, I got payed $2 an hour at that time. No increase for being an assistant manager.

There is no labor shortage. Just lazy people unwilling to work. Why should you when you can chill in front of the TV, smoke a bowl and order pizza with that stimulus/unemployment check.

I’m a life long Texan. And I’ve never heard of Layne’s Chicken Fingers. I better go find one and eat there fast. They seem stupid and desperate. They may not last the year.

The restaurant business is a very tough business

It is 14 to 16 hours a day usually seven days a week

You need a lot of employees : a lot of them are females;
And if you’re successful restaurant you’re a busy busy busy busy

It’s amazing to watch it all in action when you’re in a very good restaurant that’s busy that we all works

Especially if they never run out of anything

Customer service Hass to be A+ plus all the time

So good for these kids for getting out on their ass and working

And when 20 year olds discover how much of their wages Biden is taxing to pay for other people not to work and to reward the super rich for their efforts at robbing the country blind they will be confirmed democrats for life.
