Graham, Whitehouse: Global transition to renewables would help national security
TheHill ^ | 06/17/2021 | Joseph Choi

GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) and Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.) argue in an op-ed published on Thursday that a global transition to renewable energy would be beneficial to the U.S.'s national security efforts.

In their piece published in Time, the senators, who both sit on the Senate Environment and Public Works committee, say that transitioning to renewable energy sources would siphon off power from oil-rich countries and "Americans would instantly be safer."

Importing our energy production means from China is incompatible with US national security.

As long as the primary renewable source is nuclear power, I’m on board.

there is a HUGE if in this, but IF we could do renewables at an extraordinarily efficient level and remove the need for foreign energy imports, this is true. Unfortunately, our tech is not to this level yet.

Gosh, which is the world’s largest oil and gas producer?

What nobody ever seems to think about is large scale warfare. With fossil fuels you can effectively hide fuel stocks from attack but that is impossible with wind and solar farms. There is a strategic advantage to having renewables spread out to homes but the big money men don’t seem to like that too much because they want a few massive subsidies, not millions of little ones.

In a full scale war expect wind farms and solar farms to be shredded by airstrikes and missiles.

Personally I think all power generation plants should be shielded from air strikes but that is probably just me.

Republicans have had a long time to get their act together on environmentalist whackoism. They haven’t progressed at all.

Newt still hasn’t said why he sat on that couch with Pelosi. His answer to Hannity was “it was stupid.” True, but not a truthful answer. He didn’t do it because it was stupid. Of course, Hannity accepted that non-answer.

We had energy security and independence with oil and gas, until the china-joe-ho regime stole power. Solar and wind are fine for special situation, but not for general use. Nuclear is great, why don’t we have any new ones?

I agree with Senator Graham here. For example, I have long advocated that we get rid of our smoky, diesel-powered tanks and replace them with cavalry horses. And as we all know, horses run on renewable hay.

Rolling, rolling, rolling,
Blackouts they be rolling,
‘Cause wind may stop blowing,
And there be cloudy skies!

Don’t brag about the Teslas,
When the grid be a mess yo,
Reliability just isn’t the thing,
When you prioritize no pollution,
Over real solutions,
Expect rolling blackouts to appear!

Linda, the most powerful oil-rich country in the world is the United States of America, so how would we be safer by giving up our freedom to the mid-eastern ragheads?

Linda is too stupid to remain in the senate.

Can SC do a recall?

“As long as the primary renewable source is nuclear power, I’m on board.”

We should be building nuclear facilities all over the place. The technology has matured so much over the last 40 something years.

Not with current bettery tech. Unless we go a lot more into Nuclear, I don’t see renewable power to be viable.
