Two Black high school students in Mississippi are reportedly having to share their prestigious honor with their white classmates.
According to Mississippi Today, West Point High, which is located in the eastern portion of the state, is facing backlash for changing its class ranking system after it announced Ikeria Washington as valedictorian and Layla Temple as salutatorian for the Class of 2021 on May 24. On Thursday (June 3), the school wrote that it recognizes students with both the highest Quality Point Average (QPA) and Grade Point Average (GPA).

How awful! I am sure that the oppressees feel as if the Ku Klux Klan had hanged them from an oak tree!
“highest Quality Point Average (QPA) and Grade Point Average (GPA).”
I’m sure the “QPA” includes every possible measure of Ghetto Denizen, to include whether your mom is a crack whore.
OF COURSE these oppressed girls are further devalued for having to share this prestigious honor with the kids who got the highest, dumbed down GPA./s
Grades are racist.
This is what they mean by domestic terrorism, right?
It’s not clear what is a “Quality Point Average,” but it sounds like gibberish to make persons of color look like they earned something. Valedictorian and Salutatorian supposed to be about grades.
What is a Quality Point Average?
Never heard of that one before.

At issue was just how to calculate who the top two students were. Ikeria and Layla won based on a calculation of quality point average or Q.P.A., a system of calculating grades that gave extra weight to advanced placement and dual credit courses. But, it turned out, Dominic and Emma were the top two finishers based on unweighted grade point average.
The parents of the two white students held discussions with Burnell McDonald, the superintendent of West Point schools. They complained that based on the West Point High School Student Handbook, the school had not followed its own rules in calculating class rank.
After talking with the white parents, Mr. McDonald, who is Black, concluded that the handbook and tradition backed them up: In the school system, class rank has been calculated by unweighted grade point average, not Q.P.A., which would have made the two white students the honorees.
The evening before graduation, Mr. McDonald informed the parents of Dominic and Emma: He was adding the two white students as co-honorees — Dominic was now co-valedictorian and Emma co-salutatorian.
Mr. McDonald also permitted two missing grades — which a teacher had failed to record in the system — to be added to the final grade in one of Emma’s classes, past a deadline and after senior awards night.
Mr. Berry said the grades added for Emma did not change the outcome.
Just forget the diploma and pass around a cash participation award.

I’m thinking there’s way more to this story than they’re reporting.
My first thought was, upon finding out they were getting it, some of the other kids let it be known that they’re not that smart and the teachers have been pencil whipping their grades and giving them some help.
I read that it is a predominantly black county. Can’t have white kids outperforming them, can we?
QPA WTF?
grading blacks on a scale, because liberals assume that blacks are all too dumb to get good grades on their own.
The definition of racist.
The headline is quite inflammatory. And of course it was meant to be that way. Why pass up an opportunity to increase racial tension?
Anyway, deep inside the article is an explanation of what really happened. A guidance counselor made a mistake. And the superintendent (who is himself black) tried to correct it.
No big deal here. No racial angle here.
But you’d never know that from the headline.
Forget the grades (please). I just want my participation diploma.

Highest earners being forced to share their higher salaries with those who would have been higher earners themselves, if not for their lack of education and lack of skills and lack of desire to do better.
If anyone is interested:
Schools use the QPA system to weigh student grades against the classes that the student takes. The school multiplies the GPA value by a factor that is based on the number of credit hours that a class is worth, as well as any additional multipliers, such as an extra .1 for honors classes. For instance, a student who earned a B in a four hour regular class, earns a QPA of (3.0 x 4) 12 and a GPA in the class worth 3.0.
Ikea of course won via points for being named after the name on the box in the corner the crib came in as a baby.
Big deal. Dublin, Ohio class of 2014 had 72 valedictorians.
Yes, they was the smartest girls in the graduating class. /smirk
